    Just a small qtn
Upgrading 87 model NA brakes to later model SC brakes which Ive sourced for cheap.

I have next to no knowledge about braking systems

Is there anything I really need to know?

Would I need to upgrade my brake master cylinder?

    Thanks!

I still use my standard MC with my ST185 GT4 front brakes.

    ummm, aren't they the same?

if your 87 has the upgraded brakes, then they are the same as the S/C ones I thought. If your car is an Aus delivered car then it's definitely already got those brakes already.

    Thanks for info!

To be specific, Its an import NOV 86 model that I have.

My situation is that my rear discs seem to be damaged and Ive been offered a set of front and rear discs and calipers that came off an SC for 200 dollars and I thought it may need some other modificatoins to make it fit/work.And the discs on the set I'll be buying are abit larger in diametre?

Will double check and compare on the weekend, otherwise, ill just get the rears replaced.

    Thanks

    Holy thread revival batman!

Well from what I can tell DBA arent doing the brakes anymore, atleast not slotted.

Cars got slotted on them already and I know I don't really need slotted but I'd like to keep them that way, so has anyone got some part numbers? I'd like to increase the disc diameter if possible. To my understanding RDA are still selling them

130mm, there's a raised edge inside the factory rotor so need to chamfer the edge.

Don't fancy making up a couple of more sets by chance? I'm sure some of us to lazy to make them ourselves would buy them off you for the rear upgrade.

I have been asked If I can make some others but with the type of tools I have at my disposal it's not really worth it, I made them in the garage, each piece takes an hour to cut then an hour or two to machine cos we've only got a basic lathe up and running at the moment.

These "spacers" you guys are talking about, are these like the wheel spacers (that are illegal) or is this a bracket spacer? surely if its a hub kinda spacer the extra force the extenstion generates could damage the hubs/bearings etc?

They go between the hub and the disk, mine are hub centric and the disk is still located as well.
Unsure to the legality where you are, but here in NZ they are legal but would require cert, (but I don't think anyones gonna see them on my car )

It sits behind the rotor rather than between the rotor and the wheel. No one would even know it is there, and can be engineered anyway.

They are also only 6mm so not altering the weight balance onto the hub and bearing very much, not as much as low offset wheel for instance, as the extra mass is close to the centre of mass of the hub assembly.
