o man - both the ACL and the Gasmiser kits had the halfmoons.

Personally i prefer the ACL kit.... but get a genuine head gasket (only $60 from toyota anyway!)

Cheers Witzl... Oh and the Gasmiser kits that I have bought over the years have not included the half moons (bought a couple)

    Maybe i am mistaken?

Im am quite sure the ACL full gasket kit, GK690... and the VRS kit DK690 come with the half moons.

I have heard that they do, but have not bought one as yet to find out. Depends on what the cost invovled will end up as to whether I will get an ACL kit, or go with the SWM option of Toyota HG with KP branded other gaskets.

This question is mostly aimed at Teh Witzl, but if anyone else is learned in this field, I am happy to take advice.

I am looking at ordering my MS this week for my 18R-GTE project, apart from the latest V3 MSII kit, wiring loom and air temp sensor, is there anything else I will need?? (not sure how much benefit the stimulator will be at this stage). Is it worth getting the daughter board and trying to run a Knock sensor??

Once again, I have been bitten by the bad memory bug. I can't see those seals in the pack

The Witzl: It was $228 for the full gasket set, then you gotta add postage on top of that.

    Owen,

I just ordered the V3.0 MSII kit. Getting the air temp sensor and wiring loom would be useful too - i just used my own sensor and made my own loom.
I wouldnt bother with knock control - just be good with your ignition timing (you can borrow mine once you are set up).

Make sure you get the VB921 ignition driver too, as direct coil control is a good thing.

Anything else you might need, you can either get from Jaycar or pinch from the wreckers.

Just plan out how you intend to configure the system FIRST, and try to avoid using mix-matched things (like GM HEI ignition - it sux).

Yeah, I did intend to use the VB921... as ignition control boxes generally like to set their own spark duration. Knock control was just a nice to have... and an extra safety buffer. And what did you mean by I can borrow your ignition timing once I am set up??

I like their loom as the wires are marked every couple of inches... and also I currently dont have a spot for an air temp sensor, so getting the one that the MS is calibrated for is easier than getting anything else... as there is just as much work in mounting it (intake pipe just before the TB I believe will be the best spot)

    Cheers for the info though.

by borrowing, i mean you can use it until you modify it to suit your engine - you may find there is too much advance or that you can run more advance than i can.....

Finally have a decent running 18rg/eu Retro carbied. After the dramas in my previous posts I have had the head rebuilt completely and new upper and lower timing chains and new genuine slippers/dampers and external tensioner new genuine head gasket its all good. While I was at it I relaced the water pump. Its cost me more than what I had planned especially for the timing gear but its running smoothly and quietly. (no chain rattle).
I managed to find the long curvedguide at a motor parts store here and it was the last of thier stock. Tensioner was from toyota and came from townsville. I had the small curved slipper already, it was not the right one but a genuine one with the rubber back, I modified that to the same dimensions as the old type
I decided to go with a chrome timing cover from an early 18rg so that meant that I had to swap dizzys with an 18rc electronic one as the mounting was different (clamped not bolted) so now the advance curve may be different.and the only other problem is also the vacuum advance seems to be wrong. Its pulling the vacuum advance in all the way in on idle,
    Cheers Dave
