I've found this site that sells 18RG performance parts. From what i can see they are the same parts that toyheadauto sell and are a tad cheaper too although i'm not sure how reliable they are etc.

A couple of questions (yes, I have searched!):

    - Do 18RGU with factory solexes (88250 head) normally run lumpy and rough after a cold start? I've tried using the starter/choke thingy or simply pumping the accelerator 3 times before turning the key. Either way it idles rough and does not want to rev (psits and farts) for the first 2-5mins after a cold start.

    - Does a rough idle point to a carby balancing issue or something else? I'd like to get it smoother if I can.

The engine is running the factory electronic ignition and the leads and plugs are new. Air filters are Ram Flo foam crap (soon to chnage to K&N) but they are clean. I've checked and tightened up all the carb aux venturis as they were all loose.

My borther's urn rough after a cold start, no matter what cams or carbies we've tried in it.
We just surrendered to nursing it for the first part of the drive, going into neutral early at lights and left foot braking. That's how I deal with it.
We've never had troub;e with it revving, but we don't usually drive it harder until the engine is up to temp.

Bullit, the 18R sump and pickup are a direct bolt in, yes. But, why doesnt your mate just use an RA23, RA28, RA35 or RA40 crossmember?? All those crossmembers are a direct bolt in, and the 18R will have no issues with fitment. Also, he should upgrade the front brakes/suspension to the RA series struts (RA40s are usually easy to find and cheaper) so he gets the bigger discs??

Or you could use the AE71 xmember for the R&P (a few people have done that) and will save a lot on the geometry. This will require the same sump as the T series xmember.

I emailed them before I got the gasket set from them, above was their response.

I also attached a pic of the gasket set I got from them (although not everything is there as I have used some bits...)

They were pretty good to deal with.
