I got my last special order rods from ARGO, they cost me $1500 in 2009

I bought those Crower rods back in 2004 or something stupidly long time ago.
Cost around $1200 iirc.
They arent standard though, was a custom job.


With that front sump oil pickup, you can see that it's still kind of in the middle of the engine, just back from cylinder 2 - unlike A, K and T series engines where the oil pickup is much further forward (or the engine physically much smaller) and the pickup more towards cylinder 1.

Hence in my KE70 the engine is pushed forward more than i would like, but without crossmember mods (engineers dont like that) or a modified oil pickup and further modified sump..... i cant push the engine back any further.

Hey guys, asking for a friend, all parts are to suit 18r-g/w58

Clutch fork
Clutch kit, looking for a new OE one or an uprated one (clutch plate, pressure plate, throwout bearing)
20.5" or further back shifter (so more rearward)
Thermostat.

Hi,

Depends what car. If you have an RA28 auto then a 22RE bell housing will bolt to the engine and the W58 and the existing tailshaft fits perfectly and the gear stick is in the right place. All fits perfect. Use an Exidy heavy duty clutch, and you're all done. But, the position and fit depends on what car it is going into.

Its going in a kit car (replacing 3y+auto), hence shifter needs to be further back, will be going custom tailshaft.

With the W5x (W55, W57, W58) gearboxes, there are numerous different shifter positions available.
RT142 has the most forward
MA61 has a slightly more reward i think
xA7x supras are a bit more rewards
JZA80 has an even longer extension housing iirc

There is heaps of info about shifter positions and W5x boxes here on toymods.

Clutch - get heavy duty clutch for 18R engine, use RA23 celica as your reference
Fork - get it with the 22RE bellhousing
Clutch release bearing - get it to suit the 22RE. Use RT142 corona as your reference

No longer an 18RG virgin got mine running tonight. Sounds so bloody mean. Terrible idle - had a play but cannot seem to get it too great. I'm a complete carbie noob though so just the fact that it idles is pretty good to me. Will take it to someone who has a better idea on the weekend.

Not knowing what carb(s) you have and I'm assuming either Solex or Webber gently wind the mixture screws in until they stop and then wind out exactly 1.5 turns. Then grab a bit of garden hose and listen to each venturi as it should idle. by this I mean one end of the hose is in your ear and one end is in the venturi of the carby, Disconnect the throttle linkage and adjust the idle adjust screws until you have the same noise from each venturi and idle on spec, Adjust and connect throttle linkages as required, Check ignition timing and adjust to spec, Carefully adjust each mixture screw until engine runs smoothest and the same number of turns on each screw either in or out. Using hose recheck noise from Venturis. If all is good your carbs are balanced and engine good enough to go until such a time a propper dyno and tuning session can be done
