just checked it out, that is too high for what I need. I prefer low mount turbo setup.

I will either make one my self or find the old HKS seup from japan I see them come up every now and then..

I know this may be an out there question, But.

What engine, would be the closest engine, to the 18rgeu in terms of 2LTR, flap type AFM etc. also non turbo.
a 4age is only 1.6ltr no AFM well some do
a 3sge does not use an AFM
was there a 4fe type of toyota engine?

Then again it doesn't really have to be toyota engine. i don't think

Muziiz, currently I have built an 18R-GTE myself with a CT26 turbo on a low mount manifold and can give the following advice:

Low mount can become very restrictive space wise. For the purposes of being able to get to anything, high mount becomes a viable alternative (although I must agree that low mount looks better)

Go the EFI. The gear comes up regularly, and pretty much any aftermarket ECU will sort this motor out. Under $1000 will get you a new ECU, however I got all the gear for about $500 including a wideband oxy sensor by using the MegaSquirt 2 ECU.

Stock pistons won't cut it above 10psi (less if you don't have a good tune). Detonation will kill them before you blink. About $750 will get you a set of forgies custom made from the states. You choose the bore size. A few of us have gone for 92mm for the extra capacity, others go with a closer to standard size for ease of finding head gaskets. Other parts are definitely available if you look.

Good luck, I think the 18R-GTE is a rewarding engine. There is a thread on them on here.

    Hi,

If done well the low mount is not too restrictive. Mind you, when getting mine done the engine bay/engine location was measured and the air-con pump was placed on the engine so we could get it all fitted nicely. You should ceramic coat the manifold to reduce the heat and best to have some heat-shield to protect the alternator and also the air-con pump (assuming you have air-con). Any pipes/tubes that run along the passenger side of the engine bay should be relocated lower and/or given heat shield treatment. It does get pretty warm around that area.

And yes, as Oman mentioned, a turb'd 18R-G is a massively fun engine which can put out some impressive numbers, depending on the build quality and how well the turbo/ECU/injectors are set-up, and of course the size of the turbo.

Note: the physical size of the GT25 is a lot smaller than the CT26. Something to keep in mind when working out what turbo you want to run.

    Hi,

22re would be your best bet. Plentiful in the states. Alternatively you could look for the 18rg one..... i know of one that still has the efi manifold attached.......

    Hi,

yeah something like that. From a visual perspective they are near identical. I can provide pics of an 18rgue one if needed.

    omegaman,

Considered a sv11 camry? 2 litres FWD around 83-86? has an air flow meter same pinout I belive. I used one on my 3tgte with no problems, as the output voltage was fairly close.

2S EFI computer and AFM has been done before.

I met a guy who'd used a 4AGE one too. He said it worked, but needed a retune.

    guys,
the comparison i'm after, is not to interchange. I'm just trying to confirm and have options for my emanage piggy back blue pinouts are correct and what alternative i can use to get the best out of it. Greddy do not have details for a geu install, so a similar engine may suffice. I have it running with no maps pretty well. But now it's all ready to be started and tuned.
