Presidentom, I would like to see photos of this motor. All 18R-G's had Yamaha heads, though some did not have the Yamaha logo cast into them. Basically the head is a revision of the 3M-G head used in the 2000GT which was 3 XS650 Yamaha heads pasted together (well not literally, but you know what I mean).
Revving to 10,000rpm isn't impossible, but would take a LOT of work to get it there, and an idle of 2000rpm would also be something an engine like that would do (stock they idle around 950rpm anyway). But twisting the shell?? Unless it has some heavy boost going through it, I would say he is pulling his dick too much. As Norbie said, it wouldn't make the torque (boosted is a different story). Oh, and remember the Celicas didn't have an identifiable chassis, they had a unibody construction with a subframe that is only joined at the front. Not the strongest of constructions by any standard, but certainly can hold up to an N/A 2Ltr engine's torque. I think plywood would handle it though... balsa would be a worry...
So yeah, get some pics, get him to run it, and go from there. This engine if it is anything close to what he claims, would be a not legal for street, race only engine, and $2k if it isn't flogged out would be a cheap way of getting a race engine (as long as you can afford the rest of the cost of owning a race car)
