uh oh.. ...... the crank is gonna have to come out for welding/machining at the very least.
hey guys,
pulled down the front of the new motor to fit the NA cams and new seals all round,
when i pulled the Timing belt off, the crank belt gear had 8-10mm play.....(turning on the crank)
finally managed to get the fooker off, and to find the keyway is almost gone....damaged and crushed....
the crank keyway hole has been opened up....
tried putting the harmonic balancer keyway in the tbelt spot, and its a very loose fit...
and the Tbelt gear keyway slot is fubar and damaged
i dont know how this motor would have been running b4,....the timing would have been majorly out,
is there anything that can be done to this mtr, while its still together?
will get some pics up for tomoz night....

if its a SSS special take it back. From what i hear they are all too happy to fix / replace faulty gear.
otherwise hows the crank on the old one? did that bearing score it?

fixable by specialist engine shops (like me). crank out
nah its not an SSS...another import place, waiting for call back....probably tomoz,
no chance of swapping cranks, other crank needs $$$$ spent on it,
hectic hellis will come with the new motor aswell ( i dont learn ) lol
what would that cost, just out of interest, for arguments sake....Originally Posted by terryo

what Terry said - remove, fix and re-install (and fit new bearings while you're there).
or if it was a shitter motor, weld it on and never talk or do anything about it again
i aint dodge, but if this were a 4k or similar yeah....Originally Posted by thechuckster
i think what the machine shop can do is machine a new keyway 180 degrees from the old one and then just mrak the harmonic balancer with tdc marks again
Wow lot of work.Originally Posted by ecotechilux

What about dowelling the timing pulley to the harmonic balancer?

The right bolt torque is what holds it together after the key has it in the right position. The key is an index, and isn't meant to carry much of any load.
The right bolt torque is only after all the parts mating surfaces are OK - flat & smooth & lubed.
