    If it's a motor you need running right now, you can get away with loctite and doing up the crank pulley really tight. (I know it works on EVOs anyway)

    Ben is right - I have had to do this with my engine

    IN 05 NT, is it a 1G? I have a feeling the keyways / key are a major weak point on these engines now. My 1G-GE died from the key / keyway being chewed up and my 1G-GTE was on the way to the same fate. Loctite is saving it right now, but I have a 2nd crank to put in one day.

    always had a keyway chew out on a 1g
    I used JB weld and chucked it back together
    worked a treat
    KE38 - 2TG
    MS65 - 1UZ

    sounds like its a common problem for the mighty 1g then,,,,,

    spoke to importer today, but the compny director has just left for japan to pack up the next container.....

    so probably wont have another motor for a few weeks,...

    Haha uh oh

    If only they had made some sorta spline setup... that could be better than the old key.

    I don't really want to make up a custom pulley to fix the problem though.

    ok guys, just got back from the import place after taking the motor back to do a swap....

    anyway got out there to find that the motor they wanted to swap me looked LIKE SHIT!.....literally covered in grime and BIRD SHIT from the warehouse pigeons,

    looked in side the oil fill cap to see alot of built up GRIME,....like it has never had a serivce in its life.....

    so i got some cash back, and kept this motor, ...

    so now i ask, HOW DO I WELD IT TO THE CRANK?

    should it be welded all the way around the gear to the crank?.....or should i only tack weld it in a few spots?.....and then take a few marks out of the harmonic balancer to cover the tack marks?

    i wont be welding this myself...will take it to someone half decent, lol

    You could have the crank material built up and re-ground by A1 Metallizing - they used to be in Arncliffe St Arncliffe.

    You are then in a position to replace the pulley, fit new bearings and cut nuts.

    How was the crank in your old motor? Maybe do it properly and swap it over after machining? Or are you building that motor up for some serious power?

    I dont know whats more dodgy....... Devcon or welding

    IN05NT: Surely you can get a crank fo someone ??. If all else fails i would try and get someone to hard weld the crank up and re macine key way.

    the crank in the old 1g got munched by the bearing....would need to be machined and oversize bearing fitted....

    i really just wanna get this hunk o crap in the 23, then start driving it for a while again....

    when tax time comes around i wanna buy another 1g to rebuild,...

    for now then....i'll get some devcon,

    if the timing is a lil out it wont matter as ive got the adjustable gears now

    how munched though, surely a few bearing over size would fix it right up. especially if its only scratches a few thou deep...?

    from what every1 sez though there are no oversized bearings available for 1G .. cant even get aftermarket std bearings.

    Blake,

    Call me here at work 02 9748 1300. We can do an in car TEMPERARY crank repair if you are looking for a "Short Term" fix. We have a liquid metal like susbstance and relaease agent here commonly used for this problem. The last "temperary fix" we did was for a courier van over 100'000ks ago. That being said its luck of the draw and may last a week or a month or a year. Its bloody good stuff tho and I actually haven't had a failure/return for any of the ones done so far. Its not your best option but its a viable solution till you rebuild the old engine.

    Bearings are available after market depending on what size big ends the engine has. Oversizes also available.
