ok well i datto 1600, 180b or 200b carby will bolt straight on, onnly thing that is needed to be made is the nibble on the end of the acc cable has to be changed, and for a fillter i used a eb falcon 6 intake tube from the airbox to the throttle bady, and i just stuck a pod on the end, with me moding the secondly so it opened manualy i found the carby bolted one with no other mods done, made it go better and sounded better

It sounds ghetto and dodge.. but it works, so I like it!
I'll give that a go too! Cheers for the tip!

I also remember that when I had my 73 corolla I fitted a 40dcoe sidedraft with a redline manifold, you could also get a twin weber manifold and a 32/36 dgv weber adaptor plate.
They were the good old days when Don Hall had his speed shop in subiaco and had all that stuff on his shelf.
Larger valves and extractors, "hot dog and Lukey " were the main exhaust systems used.
AHHH life was less complicated then.
    cheers
    Cheers Dave

yeah, the good old days when you didn't have any choice but to run carby power! there were a lot more upgrades available then.

I'm trying for a quick and cheap fix tho.. so dual carb setup is out... unless someone wants to donate

    quick fix, replace carby..

but, you should open the current one to check the jets are not blocked with big globs of crap (it should be obvious), and to check the float level.

then change fuel filter, then check fuel pump.

oh, have you checked the point gap? that can also have similar effects
check the points gap first, (how old are plugs/leads??) and then play with carby again

    change plugs and leads
BP5EY or BP5ES NGK (iirc) like $3 each.
leads, just use generic ones of right length (or cheap kit)

    then chase other problems...

no fuel in the world is gonna ignite if your spark is shit.

cleaned the contacts inside the dizzy?

i thinkm stu is on the right track.
replace all electrics, ie, leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor button and points (probably pitted like a mofo)
this shouldnt be more than 70 bucks, probably less.
if still no good, go with the carby thing

well all Matty (Wildsupra) had to do was pop the bonnet and it decided to start
the carby was getting fuel - probably just not enough on cold start/cold morning.?

Anyway, since I had the other carby sitting there, I changed it anyway.
car seems to be a lot smoother and hasn't cut out yet.
The idle seems to be getting stuck at about 2000rpm. throttle cable seems to be getting stuck there. yet if I physically reset it to idle it will sit at around 900rpm .. its like the spring isn't strong enough to pull it all the way back to idle or something?
maybe the butterfly is getting a bit stuck?

I dunno - I'm happy its running again - thats all the aim was.

I do have a spare dizzy cap and spark leads in case I feel like changing them.
Probably should have grabbed the coil off my mates car too - in case it is a sparking issue.

We'll see if it has problems again later down the track..

so far - problem temporarily fixed .. money spent = $0.00

yeah, wack a stronger spring on, or if the throttle cable is a bit sticky use some dry graphite lubricant down the casing. dont use wd40 or any fluid-y/sticky stuff as it just encourages the grit

    good its going
    cheers, andrew

get throttle cable fixed or changed.
your $0 fix could lead to a $0 car if the throttle jams wide open.
jammed throttle = serious, don't just get a stronger spring. do it properly.

you wouldn't drive a car where the brakes sometimes didn't work would you?
