And here's mine. Metalcat, genie turbo centre entry - offset exit muffler and some other stainless 3" centre - centre muffler at the rear. Still too noisy for my liking, but I can't fit any more mufflers!

I cannot tell you the exact brand fitted to Kylie's car - was $250 or so, stainless straight through a and heaps quieter than before. I HATED how the car sounded, now at least it sounds good too.
It has (in order from the engine out) the cat, the said no-name brand muffler and Genie cannon (with the rear necked down to 3" to get past the tow-bar.
I believe that the problem of drone can be related as much to the stupid Milo Tin (tm) outlets on the back of the exhaust - here a simple straight through resonator is much better.
The muffler was sourced from Fadey at Budget Exhaust in Condell Park 02 9708 3088.

210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.
Hey on my 1j i run full 3inch with 2 straight through mufflers, no chambers and a metal cat, just tested for engineers report and is 88db and has no real drone inside the car. mufflers were supplied by windsor exhaust in western sydney

My Lux sounds similar to Chris's but a little louder. Its standard Y pipe, 3" mild steel, no name cat, no name long barreled center/center truck muffler. It seems the general consensus here is bigger muffler is quieter. I am thinking of removing the cat as its not needed on light commercials in QLD, would this make the zorst louder??

I have twin 2.5" dumps, going to a 3" highflow cat, then some sort of 3" offset muffler or resonator thing, then a long piece of 3" pipe straight out the back of the car. Pretty damn loud, any more noise complaints and I think I'll get kicked out of my townhouse.
Car started with no exhaust after dumps, and then a flyby with no rear cannon:

Sounds like a commodore when pootling around, but sounds dick hard when you get the revs up.
I was thinking of getting one of those remote control mufflers so I can quieten it down when I am near my house or do freeway driving, and then open it up nice and loud for WSID etc. Had anyone tried one?
I have a massive truck muffler at home ready to go in, just want to run at WSID again with some MT tyres and 20psi before I quieten the car down.

how the fk do you do that? straight through as in just pipes??
nope, 2 c/o mufflers that you can see straight through.
ask officer doofy or bigworm how loud they are.

Ok, my issue is this. Car is unregistered, don't care how loud it is. Have to run a muffler for street RWD.
Current muffler is some large offset 3" no name one. Trap speeds with and without muffler fitted indicate that there is no power being lost with it on.
Issue is
1. I can't bloody hear the car at all
2. The thing weighs a tonne.
So anybody know of a nice sounding small muffler that weighs SFA? I really think it would weigh about 10kg. It is a big mofo.
I suppose another issue is that a cannon would look seriously homo on a corona! Unless I painted it black?
Big wad: what are these ones you make? What are they made of and how heavy are they? Any pics?
I will also check to see if a resonator is allowable under SR rules as a muffler.
BTW vid to prove how quiet it is

gut out the muffler you have now...... that'll save a bit of weight, and make it loud!

Lets use some common sense here people....
The glassfibres packed into the muffler is what absorbs certain exhaust frequencies. The amount (thickness) of glassfibres around the perforated tube affects how much it absorbs depending the the quality of the glassfibre. Now the only way the sound travels into the glassfibres is by the perforated holes. Most of the shelf perforated tubing has only 20% Open area, the Genie Mufflers have 30% (3mm holes), but you can also get 50% Open Area perforated sheets with 3.2mm Holes if you want to build your own instead and save 40% in weight for the same noise reduction.![]()
Anyhow you want is a round/cylindrical muffler as long as possible. It doesn't need to be offset. The only advantage of having it offset is that you'll gain an extra 10% or so in length for the exhaust noise to be absorbed.
How much, from the dumps back? And just from the cat back? Even 3" is enough for me...Originally Posted by The Real Roadrunner
