Go find a carline or A1 muffler shop and talk to them - they sually know what they're talkign about - my local shop is run by an ex-gravel rally guy and seems to know his stuff.

I have a 2 3/4 system (post-dump thru to the rear) that reduces to 2 1/2 at the muffler - you can still hear the fuel pump over the zorst tone.

Personally, i can't see the benefit in the imported systems apart from the neato stickers and increased drone volume.
    cock and bull it will.

ive got 3" from stock dumps back, resonator under the drivers seat, and an offset muffler in the rear with 5Zigen Tip (not that it makes much difference i dont think?)

    mines as droney as fuck.

ive considered and inquired about a cat, and what it would do for the exhaust, as i love the note, and its not too loud, it just drones like a whore, and ive been told CAT wont do much in terms of drone.

i cant think of a single way to get rid of it, as the resonator did precisely dick all.

    stupid 1J + A70 cabin drone.

Interesting... My mate's got an A70 with a cat, Redback sausage roll and muffler, all in 3", and it's just fine.

EldarO, my experience with hotdog resonators is the same..... they do fk all.

I fitted a Cat to my previous car also to see if it would kill some resonance, but made no difference.

MrShin: The hooker aero chamber is about $160, double what the Redback cost to do the same job

Ive got some big ass cannons on my otherwise stock system.

Real droney as 2K3 RPM. On boost it goes real quiet and you cant hear it over the turbos.

Im going to put the stockies back on for a while I think.

CAT wont eliminate drone, a hot dog 'should' reduce drone as it provides expansion space for the standing waves (the drone sound) to eliminate. Either it's not big enough, the internal perforated pipe has been damaged or the outer section has been filed with something too hard... however, every *A70 i've ever seen has droned - maybe it's a factory feature

My Blitz NUR drones like a MOFO. Flows like a MOFO too but yeah real fkn annoying on a 6 hour road trip (JZA70) But a mate has an RS*R one on his JZA70 and its so fkn quite its freaky. Although he has a shit restrictive cat in there, 3" every where else tho.

I was thinking of buildoing a custom twin 2.5" with a pair of glass packed dogs. I want a deep roar on wot and high RPM and a nice deep NON DRONIE sound on idel and low RPM.

For what it's worth, I had a 5in. Apexi muffler on my A70 and it had the most awesome idle ever. Really deep and pleasant sounding. I think the size of the muffler has a direct relationship to noise levels because my car was a lot quieter than guys with smaller mufflers ( 3in. for example ).

sounds like a smart person to me

1JZ-Rolla, every JZA70 ive been in is loud and annoying, even the stock systems that ive heard drone too.

and here i am wanting to rip out the sound deadening to save weight

im beginning to give up hope.

chuckster, the hotdog was put on at the same time as 1J, which means about 4 months, and 3,750 k's of use. and if the guy installing it buggered it up while he did, id imagine he'd get alot less business than he currently does, i managed to fit a booking in 3 days, as hes now a mate, and he managed to fit me in... (barely )

in short. teh JZA70 exhaust sounds like dick.

Hey mate the best thing to do is go to your performance zorst shop and ask for their advise. they would have had lots of other people ask similar questions about other high ouput engines.

I am going to have to get a short vid of my car for you guys. I swear it is the quietest 1jz around. It was like this before I went single also.

Pretty much just a regular 3" system with a no name muffler.
