it is just an internal gate. Just weld it up and pretend it is supposed to be an externally gated turbo. That is what I did.

I would love to get a garrett turbo but can't afford it so el cheapo it is. It is going well so far and I plan on this thing pushing me into the 11's soon enough.

edit: running 15psi so far and it has spiked to about 23psi once (accidentally). I don't plan on running big boost as I will be using nitrous. Hypergear recommend 20psi or less. That is probably because of the warranty I would say. You can't really expect a turbo to live forever if you are pushing BIG boost.

Have a look into the Holset turbo's as well. They have been used pretty successfully by some guys in the US on MR2's and such. They aren't a 'chinese' brand either, they make truck turbo's.

Ive been thinking about a twin KKR setup on my 2J for a little while.........there is nothing between the 330 and the 430 though. 2x 330s arent big enough and 2x 430 is too much. Will likely run the twin 430s on medium boost but unless Im planning to use the turbo to its full power potential Im worried I'll be setting myself up for an unwarrented amount of lag.

Something around the 380 size would be perfect for my goals.

The one on my friends hilux is running ~19psi now (or thereabouts). I drove it for a bit before xmas on 15psi and it felt quite good to drive. Now on the higher boost it's pulling distance on another friends car that run mid 12's - so it goes alright for a work ute .

The hilux just makes use of the internal gate and doesn't have any boost control issues either (none that I noticed driving it and none showed up on the dyno). It's using a turbo smart dual stage controller.

Shortly it'll be getting fitted with a 1J and a larger KKR turbo (the 430 I think it is) both of which are sitting in the garage just waiting for the available time to fit them.

If my garrett dies I'll be giving a KKR a go on my 4A.

Are there any compressor maps around for the 330?
    Looks quite interesting.

Actually after seeing the dyno charts for those LS1 kits, 2x KKR330 may be up to the task more than I first thought.

The designer of the LS1 kits is making over 400kW at the tyres on 11psi boost using twin 380s. I guess it depends on how much power you want to make, but I'd be expecting twin 330s on a 2J to be making anywhere from 300-350kW at the tyes on less than 20psi for sure.

as far as boost goes, my CA18 with a 330 on it runs 16-17psi and makes around 206kW at the wheels. We have run it up to 19psi on the dyno without any dramas at all, although we backed it off to 16psi again as the engine didn't sound as though it was liking it!

As for compressor maps, nothing is available at this time.

Ah thats ok, ill probably give on a go on the road car before going to the GT28RS on the race car if i feel its warranted.

So even at 19psi that little turbo doesn't seem to be out of its efficiency range? or is around 20 pound that on the CA the 330 starts to run out of puff?

From what i have read today the KKR330 has similar characteristics to the GT28 which means that it could handle about 25psi without struggling too much.

If an LS1 can make 380rwkw on only 10psi, Im hoping to be able to get similar power out of the same turbos on a 2JZ with higher boost (20psi?? maybe 22??)

My goal is a reasonably responsive 500rwhp (~375rwkw) possibly with water/meth injection if needed.
