Default aw11 clutch master cyl leaking (again)

Soon I'm gonna have to do something about my clutch master cylinder leaking fluid. When I first got the car 5-6 years ago it was leaking and I had it reconditioned.

Now its leaking again, and I'm wondering if there's any other options, besides reconditioning again. I'm guessing replacing it would mean going genuine meaning either very expensive or not possible

Could this be some kind of design fault causing them to start leaking every 5 years, or is it just mine?

It sucks cause its been corroding the paint around the front bay area.

Hmmm we need MyRacing221 to have a look at this thread he had his for 12 years, I've had mine for 2 with never a problem, I had my alternator reconditioned because I couldn't find a replacement so maybe weigh up the options between toyota genuine (ouch) and another rebuild.
    Cheers

genuine clutch masters are around $200 , the best option and will last 20 years if looked after. they do rebuild but the more worn the bore the shorter it lasts after its rebuilt.

perhaps a unit from an AE82 or similar will do the trick for a cheaper solution. (if it works that is)

Or there is the new part option.

$200 doesn't sound that bad. I thought it costed close to that much getting it reco'd last time, but that might have included the brake master cyl also

I didn't think that was an option, worth a try then I guess.

For $200 you will prob come close to getting a wilwood one and you can replace the seals yourself if ever needed!

I called repco and they can supply one for 175$ surprisingly, didn't mention what brand or anything though, but I'm thinking I might as well go with that option, IF reconditioning the current one for a second time will mean only another few years out of it....

the pbr unit is about $170, if the genuine or wilwood is going to cost that money id go down that path.

the ae92/ae82 one isnt the same but you could probaly adapt it.

that said for $200 genuine... no real arguments i guess

Both the SC's I've owned had the clutch m/c die. Both that died were the older cast iron ones. The newer replacement part is cast alloy. I got a quote of well over $100 to get it reco'd and didn't bother. Just get a genuine part if its $200, it only hurts for a few seconds while you pay .
    Cheers, Nick.

$175 from repco sounds like a bit of a rip off.. normally they're 70 - $100 for aftermarket ones. Try calling another parts store for a price.

There is the option of rebuilding your one again but doing it yourself.. they really aren't that hard to do and the kits cost less than $30 in most cases.

I'll check my epc when I get home and see if the MC in them is common to any other toyotas

ive been down this road. the part is common to an import starlet only iirc

the PBR part at $180 is a fair price, i know they are normally $80 but for some reason probaly lack of volume and part interchanagbility they are expensive.

Too true TooF, little to no interchangeability at all

$200 for a genuine one is actually pretty cheap though

I rang toyota spare parts, and the genuine clutch master cyl is actually $240. And it would take 4 weeks to order in from Japan

So I've told repco to order it in and it will take less than 3 hours!
