Default Overflow bubbling when stopped - 7M Of Course -

I know there is always discussion of BHG on the mighty poo and this isnt to turn into one of them i hope

7MGTE and Air-Con and 35 degree days the temperature guage doesnt move over half way or get hot when driving around although after the engine is off and the car sits it starts blowing out the Overflow bottle and bubbling.

Naturally when sitting there off the Engine fans arent working nor is water circulating hence why its getting so hot and opening radiator cap (0.9bar) causing this problem im having

Has a new 0.9bar ND radiator cap , I know i could go for a 1.1 or 1.3bar cap and probably eliminate this issue of the cap opening although im wondering whats making it get so hot to open the cap ? Unless the top radiator tank is causing issues i might have the top tank checked out as the Cap may not be seating correctly.

The cars not moving thus theres no air to cool the radiator down and because of under bonnet temps (radiated heat from the engine) it could cause the coolant to boil.

When I did a skidpan day I park the car temps were around 80 degrees and when I'd start it they were up as high as 90 degrees even 30-40mins later.

I might try with a 1.1bar Cap and see how that goes as mentioned it might be just getting that tad to hot when sitting and causing the Cap to blow off.

A few weeks ago my wife rang to tell me water from her Camry was running down the street after she stopped. Turned out the radiator cap had fallen apart and no longer held pressure.

    Thar she blows cap'n!

7Ms BHG of their own accord, and even if it wasn't BHG the fact that it's overheated almost certainly means that it now is!

    ermm wtf
    who said it overheated?

its just the turbo and engine heat soaking the radiator and generating enough pressure for the coolant to overflow, as its designed too.
i run a 16psi cap in my 1g-gte ke70 and she overflows on a daily basis.
if it keeps doing it consider a new cap, if not its likely just because of such an extreme day

I had this once when the water pump was stuffed (although on a 3sge).. it certainly wasn't the weather as it was the middle of winter, and the pump hadn't started leaking at that stage. Just something to consider

even if it stops at 100 degrees even, it shouldnt boil out of the overflow.

like glen said, burp the cooling system so you know it has no air in it. also check the radiator cap isnt worn, if its not sealing 100% it can cause problems like this.

Check your thermostat take out and test in 1litre of boiling water and use a basic houshold thermometer. Also flush cooling system by undoing the little drain plug at the bottom of radiator drain all contents into an oil drip tray and flush with bottle radiator flush use hose gentlely intop of radiator and drain into drip tray 2-3mins is good. Check thermos are working and fan. Check for cracked or swolen hoses especially water feeds to turbo and check water pump housing is not corred or that the bearings aren't stuffed by hand when motor off shouldnt be too stiff and makes sure no water comes out of weep hole in pump of so the beraings have failed. A new pump Powermax cost $60 made in japan at Super Cheap and check for crude in radiator top and bottom tanks. And if all else fails check compression all cyclinders and if exhaust sound deep and pugs look different coulur and one cyclinder is down alot eg 140- 115 blown headgasket. Also check that when next oil change water doesn't look look Carmearlow water in oil indicates that housing or water jacket in head or hairline crack = big bucks. Check radiator ends at crimps and no holes. belt tensions okay also?
