It's not gonna cost that much to have a bit knocked off your head... but WHY? 4AC's already rattle enough with standard compression...
hey,
can you get a thinner head gasket for a 4ac?

Probably cheaper and trouble free to just do a 16V conversion or something if you want more power.![]()
Oh i plan to, come March. but untill then.......Originally Posted by PuGZoR
a standard head gasket is worth like 20 bucks so are you saying that it's a shitload more expensive for a thinner one?
Also, do you mean to say that swapping in a 4ag is easier than replacing a head gasket?
Okay, maybe putting a 4AGE in isn't as easy as replacing a headgasket, but I wouldn't bother touching the 4AC at all unless, especially because you're putting in the 4AGE in fairly soon. I'd say with the 4AC's you get them in one size, and one size only, being the stock one. Anything else would probably be a custom made jobie... I'd imagine, anyway. Just my two cents.
I'd think that it'd make a poofteenth of a difference anyway.. slow is slow however you look at it, enjoy it for what it is![]()

oh there is no enjoyment involved (unless it's wet)
i said to myself that i wouldn't spend any money on this ratshit engine when i got the car, but i was thinking and came to the conclusion that because the 4ac has pretty low compression anyway that putting a thinner headgasket in it (providing i could find one) might be worthwhile and would give me something to do while i wait to get a 4ag.
how much thinner do you expect to get? i doubt more than a poofteenth of a mm - which will make zero measurable difference in performance

Well, how about measuring the thickeness of the standard gasket, and working out the difference a thinner one would make to compression...
i dunno i thought if they have them for a 4ag they might have a headgasket that can make a difference to a 4ac. But that was one of the reasons i asked my original question: i wanted to knowOriginally Posted by ed_jza80
You should hit the cylinder head as hard as possible on the top with a very heavy hammer. This will help compress the head gasket a little and solve all the little problems the 4AC has.
and while your at it hit yourself tooOriginally Posted by Billzilla

A normal head gasket is around 1mm thick. Buy a 0.5 head gasket for a 4A-GE, (TRD or TODA I think), and it will come close enough to fitting 4A-C.
Or get a thin peice of copper and make your own gasket, worth a try.
If you want power, change the carby for something bigger. Some carbys like a Datsun 200B one may fit and have bigger throttles. A webber would be better.
