The thermostat seals are separate, an extra $8 or $9 or something silly.
The other missing ones are an o ring and the gasket for the flange? They normally supply all the gaskets with the water pumps, strange they left them out!
Well my toyota parts arrived today. Just got home from work and it looks like im missing 3 gaskets!
I think Im missing the ring gasket for the thermostat (i'll just use the old one) and the 2 ring gaskets for the piece of pipe that you have to change over from the old water pump... Not sure if they were meant to be in the kit, but im pretty sure i got them last time a got a 2J water pump and thermostat!
Might have to try local toyota for those little ring gaskets as the old ones are surely buggered.
I also got charged $25 for postage and yet it only cost them $12. I'll be ringing them tomorrow to give them a what for.
Does anyone know if im supposed to connect the bottom pipe on the new pump to anything? Theres no pipe on the old pump, so im not sure if i can just leave it. I think it might be just for the weep hole?
Weep hole Pipe is highlighted in Red.
Other pipe with missing gaskets in Blue.
Thanks again
Ben
Edit: from the looks of this pic of Projectsleepers new thermostat, he got the gasket? Or is that the seperate 16325-62010 Thermostat Seal?

Yes, the circled in red drain is between the seal & bearing, to keep any seal leak from getting to & destroying the bearing.
some good info here...I am dreading the day my water pump goes kaboom as I am going to have to do this...$1000+ for a pump is not justified

Ben

my cut came with busted alternator, was a fuck to fix, but i found a good second handie for $80.
score.
look around, you'll be able to shave a decent amount of your quotes there (such as buying tyres off a recent wrecked car a.k.a second handies) etc.

Yes, don't bother with anything on that pipe, it is just designed to leak to the ground when the pump is fubar..

I might do a proper write up on how to swap over the pumps when everything is sorted. Just gotta pick up the new seals tomorrow from Toyota. They charged me $9 for the thermo seal and $3.50 each for the 0-rings.... another dealer quoted a few dollars more... i wish they had one standard price, im sick of having to call around for the best price!
Ben
I give up!
I ordered the 3 gaskets (thermo seal, and 2 o-rings) yesterday, picked them up this morning, and to my dismay, they only ordered one 0-ring and the wrong thermo seal. Ive seriously been stuffed around by 3 different Toyota dealers at 3 different locations all providing sh!t customer service all at totally different prices.
I told the guy that i wanted a discount, so he gave me $3 off and I left with only one new 0-ring and a seal he found in the back (lucky for him!). Also, luckily for me, one of the original o-rings is still in perfect nick, so i used that!
Anyway *RANT MODE OFF*
Installed the new pump. Then saw that the metal heater pipe wasn't connected up properly. Uninstalled pump. Connected up heater pipe properly and installed pump again. Then while doing it up I shaw off a water pump bolt! Stupid freakin supercheap torque wrench didnt click at the correct loading so it over tightened!!!
Uninstalled pump, drilled the bit of bolt that was left in the hole, and eventually used muscle and pliers and removed the bugger! Installed pump with spare bolt found from old 1J soarer parts bucket! Looked at the watch and then realised i had to go to work! Dammit!
Well, tomorrow i hope to go and buy a 24mm??? socket to tighten the crank bolt with the dodgy torque wrench, then bolt the remaining bits and peices back together. Hopefully by friday she will start!
Wish me luck....
PS- does anyone have any tips about tightening the crank bolt up to 324Nm of torque / 239 ft.lbfs??? I dont have the correct crank tool or a rattle gun? How can i stop the motor from spinning? I only have the usual DIY tools....
Sounds like the saga is nearly over at least.
http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16599 Have a look through this thread for how to lock the crank from spinning to tighten the crank pulley bolt
I am the sun
I have been searching for that thread for ages! Thanks for finding it for me!
I might do the tranny plate block of wood method!!! Looks easy enough!
Thanks mate!
Ben
ITS ALIVE!
Finished bolting her all back together and set-up the thermo fan switch!
The engine runs very smooth, and to my shock, NO LEAKS! yepeeee!
I ended up pulling off a rubber gromet near the bearbox and using a L bracket to stop the plate from spinning. Worked well, though i might get dad over with the rattle gun, just to be sure....
Thanks everyone for all your help, couldnt have done it without you guys!
