The other option is to just buy a simple thermo switch for about $60. Look up the Tridon catalogue at local parts store, select the one you want (probably something like on 90 off 85) tap a fitting somewhere to fit it and wire it in using a relay. Too easy.

you can use the original sender in the lower rad tank of the aristo , and if that dont work its probally the same thread as a manual switch like GT said 90 on 85 off .
id be interested for you to see if a clutch fan would fit . at least measure the gap between the water pump stub and the rad core , (supra pump)

thanks peoples... i have called about 25 different wreckers and noone has a clutch fan. I did find a place that'll sell me twin thermos for $90, so im heading there now

It'll actually work out cheaper than a clutch fan and shroud... lol

Haha I told ya, the clutch fans are basically impossible to find unless you sell a kidney and buy a new one. The only time you'll find a Supra at the wreckers is if it's had a rather nasty head-on collision, which of course means the fan will be smashed... and hardly anyone "upgrades" their stock fan because it works just fine as it is.

    Update time,

Its been a happy day for me. I visited about 6 different wreckers around the northside of Brisbane looking for some thermo fans. Found some EL Falcon fans and price ranged from $190-$250 second hand. They looked good, but were slightly smaller in height, so i left them alone.

    anyway...

All jap tracked down a supra clutch fan for me, the only one they could find, and it was $120 with the water pump, which i dont need. I said that ill take both, then he said "yeah I can get you the fan blades for around $320 if you need them" ahahahaha, he quoted me for just the clutch not the whole fan unit, lol...

So after my fit of laughter I visited Boondal wreckers and found a corsair twin thermo pack that fits beautifully. Its a touch smaller on one side, but only by about an inch. The top holes even lined up perfectly, just need some custom brackets for the bottom. Pics below!
How much do you ask.... $50!!!!!

Now about this wiring up business, i can buy a thermo switch at supercheap for $40, or should i try and use the standard one? and if so, how do i wire it up? I realise i need a relay, but im not sure on how to connect it all up.

    Thanks all
    Ben

Ohh and I almost forgot. Ordered my genuine parts today as well.

Called Redcliffe Toyota and started spitting out part numbers...

16100-49846 Waterpump, "that'll be $190"... umm ok, a bit expensive... but ok...
23300-49195 Fuel filter, "that'll be $90"... still expensive, but i kept going...
90916-02310 Serpentine belt "sorry thats not a belt its a bolt"... thats when i get sick of it, and promptly called Penrith Toyota on 02-4736-2722.

    16100-49846 Waterpump, $114 Saved $76
    23300-49195 Fuel filter, $64.05c Saved $25.95
90916-02310 Serpentine belt, $28 Saved from buying a bolt
90916-03093 Thermostat, $14.85c and who knows how much i saved.

Total : $248.40 including express postage to my door.
Now remember to shop around, even for parts, it can save you HEAPS of money!

Not meaning to be painful, but would suggest you do a search for thermo fans and wiring using "witzl" as poster and you'll get text and quality MS Paint wiring diagrams.

If you do buy a thermo switch from Supercheap, make sure you select the correct one from the catalogue. They come in a variety of types - open or closed circuit, switch to earth (one pin) or two pin and also in a range of different threads.

By the way here is the link to the Tridon thermo switch catalogue. Had a bit of a look here - you probably need to go and look at the catalogue after having looked at the wiring diagrams to make sure you get the correct one....the pages scanned from the catalogue don't quite specify whether they are open or closed when they come on or off.

Since the vital images from witzl are missing, can someone please tell me the following...???

Ive worked out to wire relay point 87 to the fan's positive wires. The relay has 2x 87's, does it matter which one? Pic below.

Relay point 30 goes to the positive battery terminal with a 30amp fuse running in the line.

How do i connect up the standard dual pin temp sensor to the relay? Pic is below...
Ive been told some corollas have single wire sensors, should i go and find one at a wrecker and just connect that up to 85 or can I run a wire from either one of the aristo temp sensor pins to relay point 85 and then ground relay point 86???

Im just very confused and need plain english help

    Thanks heaps!
    Ben

PS- im not really wanting to go and buy an adjustable thermo switch as im seriously out of money..... my alternator cost me $280 to get rebuilt and that makes me $1400 over budget

You need to see whether your switch is open or closed at room temp. Just hook up a multimeter across the two terminals - if there is no connectivity or infinite resistance then it is open. If you see a low number, then it closed. Likely to be closed from memory but check anyway.

chemiweld is used to repair STATIC leaking joins like gaskets

it will do NOTHING for a bearing/seal failure on a water pump other than to stuff the rest of the system

yes i believe its a closed sensor, ie if you unplug the connection, the fans would constantly run. I believe almost all toyotas are like this.

    Does that shed any light?

My experience with chemiweld concurs with this post. I have no idea if it would solve your issue.

For the record, I've been running with a chemiweld-fixed head gasket leak for approximately 3000km and had no issues. If you do use it, keep it off any surface that you don't want to get stained, it can leave a white-ish discolouration on plastics and paint.

an old mechanics trick to stop SMALL leaks is to put a bit of pepper in the radiator.... it converges on/blocks the leak....

have done this with small leaks on my old VK commodore, but i probably wouldn't recommend it to use on newer cars or cars you're looking to keep for a while, as i'm not sure if it would cause any problems with blockages in the cooling system or not.
