Simple, don't cut common circuits. Starter coil fuel pump and ECU fed 12V will bypass 99% of alarm installs, whether they find the alarm brain or not. Cut stuff like sensor wires that can't be simply bypassed. There are plenty of circuits to cut that are virtually impossible to trace if your alarm brain is well hidden and secured.

Hmm, don't know how legal this would be though.
I have a feeling it would be legal in the same way an electric fence is legal....I.E. If you have a sticker in the middle of the steering wheel or on the window clearly saying what will happen if you try and steal the car then you should be ok to do it**.

I think i just had a brilliant idea. Why not have a quick release gear stick? The theif wont be able to chuck it in gear to nab your wheels, and unlike a steering wheel, its easy to fit somewhere to hide.

many good ideas guys, the reason I wanted to make my car do this is because it would hopefully alert me to some guy messing with my car so as to give me the chance to beat him to a pulp. But I think i will have a kill switch for the fuel pump.

the kit my mate got was definately designed as an in-cabin scremer, im 90% sure he got it from jaycar, i wouldnt listen to the salespeople there half of them dont even know what they stock (from personal experience).

i would look at electrical suppliers like farnell or something; just get the screamer and hook it up to the siren output of my car alarm.

It's my car, there is a 130dB battery backup siren well hidden inside the car*

Having that ignition coil thing would do nothing in the way of engine damage. Heres the reasoning.

Pistons travel up twice and down twice in their combustion cycle. Firstly they take in air and fuel on their down travel with the intake valves open which close at the bottom of their stroke. Upon this the piston travels upwards to compress the mixture and just before reaching the top of its stroke is ignited.

Here if the fuel is not ignited it will just dump it into the hot exhaust and ignite and make the backfiring sounds.

Now once lit the combustion forces the piston down and then it travels back up with open exhaust valves to expel burnt gas.

Now this is where Sam is saying to reignite mixture/divert spark to. I fail to see how engine damage is going to be done when not only is the ignition process over, but provided the car has a decent tune should have burnt almost all if not most fuel leaving nothing/little that can be ignited by this second ignition. Plus the valves are open so doing this is not going to force pistons back down - like detonation, but since that occurs with closed valves it would do no where near the damage, and thats if it did any damage to begin with.

On the other hand rich mixtures destroy cat converters - but then again i doubt your car is going to get stolen/started a great number of times.

i guess it depends on the motor , and what leads are swaped

yet thigns i cut in my old car when building an alarm
fuel, ignition, coil (obvious ones to start with)
    crank angle sensor
afm (realy stuffs things up depending on the car, cressidas wont even run without it) and cut in and hide most of the wiring behind the dash behind the center console somewhere away from the ecu and easy to get to place)
neutral safty switch (just means they need to get under the bonnet to short the starter)
and all done with switches hidden that u needed to take out the ashtray to get to, and another hidden as the aircon switch (car didnt have aircon so i thought why not)
if someone can fix all that and pinch the car, then hes pretty good

also it wouldnt of burnt all that fuel yet
because it wouldnt of sparked on that fire as its set to fire at a diffrent time on that cylinder
so if his ignites on the compression on a cylinder then its genna stuff something

    G'day,
You're on your own when choosing which circuits to cut, but I thought this idea was pretty good.

    http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_0059/article.html

Someone on the forums gave me the idea of switching one of the switches already on your dash (flick the new switch, and it changes the function of the original switch). Could also be useful.

    Cheers,
    Richard.

^ thanks mate that is some good info.

one of the guys from the cressida forums had the idea of using a factory button (like the TAPE button for the radio, who would ever use tapes?) but it was very hard to use it as the way they used switches seemed to be different than just ON or OFF, ie they used common wires on a pcd etc, i couldnt work it out anyway.

i remember reading THE RUNNING MAN (by one of stephen kings psudonyms) they had a cool alarm zapper that electrified the outside of your car (or pushbike) and gave ppl a shock if they touched it.

also remember robocop 2 or 3 (or maybe it was Total Recall?) where they theif gets totally fried like being in a electric chair. good idea but i dont fancy the cleanup afterwards!

i found out the previous owner of my car installed a kill switch. I believe its for the fuel pump, as the car will crank, but never start, also when you switch it while the car is running, the car splutters for a few secs and dies.

but then again, who wants to steal a SV21 station wagon
