for a laugh, you could probably pick up a cheapish mx73. Would be hilarious trying to man handle a land barge on the dirt.... atleast it has IRS.
the AE94 Corolla Wagons came with a 4AFE in FWD form and a 4WD gearbox, with a live rear end (it's actually a T-series - Open centre and 4x100PCD). From memory I think they have an electric clutch arrangement to lock the centre diff
I have seen one with a 20V 4AGE instaled before, it would be quite a ncie car then. Otherwise they are slower than a nornal corolla, due to the extra weight and drivetrain loss.
I'm not so sure they would be good for rallying - but I could be wrong.
I would also shy away from putting a 1G into a RA series celica - as more than one person has said, it will make the car ineligible for anything more than club rallies. There's a bloke down at SDMA who has a RA65 that someone had put a 3SFE from a Camry into - He can't rally it in almost any class due to the engine swap - and it was still a 4Cyl engine.....
I would suggest an AE71 or KE70 as they are plentiful, you can still find them at wreckers 9anything older is getting harder to find) and they don't attrack the 'Takumi Tax' that AE86s do. Plus shoehorning a nice 4AGE in there is easy and cheap.

I think the problem with the 4WD Rollas was the gearbox. There's no other box that you can put in there I think. And it just doesn't handle power/torque.

At least they are not like the minis gearbox and sump all in one with one oil to lubricate the lot.

I second the RT142, way more of them on the road than RA65s
Go to any self serve wreckers and there's 3-4 to choose from.
OR buy whole spare cars
Corollas are smaller and probably a little more chuckable, better to get between the trees.
But diffs and gearboxes are getting expensive, and they do cop it in a rally environment.
Go the corona!

Puting the 22RE into an RA23 Celica (1975-1977).
It's a direct bolt in (same mounts and gearbox) except for the following...
- EFI fuel system (surge tank, pump, filter)
- new exhaust sytem (use 22RE aftermarket manifold plus custom rear).
The 22RE will also go into an RA40.
Slightly heavier but you can bolt in the IRS from an SA63 or RA65 (the 2400 model).
The RA6# is the heaviest of the lot.
Toyota had good rally success with them but only by putting in the 3T-GTE 1800cc turbo (actually bored out to 2070cc for racing).
If you are allowed turbos, then the TA22 (1970-1975) with the 3T-GTE is wonderful (180HP in 1000kg) and is also an almost direct bolt in to replace the old 2T engine.
A bit harder to find parts for is the TE27 Corolla with 2T engine.
It wasn't sold in Australi but it was sold in JApan and the US.
Buy an Oz spec KE20/21/25 and upgrade to either the 2T-G twincam or the turbo 3T-GTE.
The KE20 crossmember can be modified to suit the T series engines (I have specs on the 2 crossmembers) or you can buy (beg?) for a TE21/27 crossmember from the US.
Simailr witht he KE3# and 4# series but they are a little heavier.
The T-18 (aka TE72 Corolla) is also easy to upgrade to a 2T-G or 3T-GTE.

Oops, only read page 1 out of 3 on this thread.
Sorry if I'm a bit a out of context.
By the way, i believe it was RT104 who was the first one in Australia to put a 3T-GTE into a T-18.
