    RA40 is another option.

they did pretty well in RAC portugal and other rallys

significantly lighter than the 60 series celicas
i think the weight distribution is pretty good, as long as you keep a 4cyl in there

i consider them pretty compatable for mod's

although the corolla is probably the best place to start (if you can find one)

Ur going to have hard time finding a good bodied KE35, jsut use a KE70, much better car, rack and pinion, rear springs and AE71 enigne cross member = 4age ease. (Or find a AE71...)

I kinda wanna steer clear of KE50, my mate did have one though, he liked to rally too, until one wheel stepped off the road, and literally flipped the car.. as in full revolution, there was hardly any damage to the roof, he was going pretty fast. I came out to tow him back, but I just hooked up the battery and off he drove Though the steering was a little funny, he got it back to uni, where it stayed until some aggies stole the wheels for burnouts

I keep comming back to RA celicas....

I think the shorter wheel base of the KE70, and the lower weight would be good for rally's, but u never know, RA65 22RE beast could be good too.

what gearbox is in the ke? wouldn't it be a bitch to get the box to hook up to a 4age? can a ae71 crossmember fit in a ke2x?

Thanks for all the info guys, some great suggestions here.

Im definatly leaning toward RA65 celica, the RA60 doesnt have IRS does it?

22RE should be sufficent for dirt rallys, there not much I have to do to get it ready either. Just rollcage (although not technically required, Id feel much safer with one, as Im sure whichever sucker I can get to nav )
Depending on club rules, I would love to drop the 1G in there, its attatched to a W55 currently in my XX. 1G and RA65 would make great a great combo.

Its a KE20 Almost ready to go for rally/khana just choose your engine, get a bond cage and some light weight wheels.

Id love to get into this sometime soon too. They look like so much fun.

I have my St162, which Ialready has the MR2 engine in it, or I have my old AE71 which is unregistered and has some rust (nothing that some bolt on rear guards cant fix.

Im unsure as to which car I want to play around with. St162, registered so I can drive it to the events its fwd but real nice to drive and pretty quick for a stock car.

Ae71 is rwd, and easy to work on. Engine has screwed rings, but a 4AC isnt exactly hard to change... maybe I should combine the two?.. 3SGE AE71?

Go the AE71 easy to find parts for.

Just remember Rally = Money (then again Cars = Money)

Just a few costs i have added up for my Celica Rally car

    Full 6 point welded cage = $2500
    Terratrip distance meter = $700
    Harness's x2 = $500 (cheap)
    Hydraulic handbrake =$260
    Coil over suspension = $800
    New Koni shocks =$900

And this is just running a standard 2TG with twin 40mm webers no engine mods.

I race autocross using an RT142 corona. The 22RE really works well with the amount of torque it has. The only things it has done to it is; some camber, locked diff, inlet and exhaust mods, rollcage, completely stripped and just some rally tyres. At the course where I race there is the track record is a 1:27 and not many people get close to that. The car is very competitive and has run a 1:32 and am confident it can go 1 or 2 seconds faster still with a little tweaking in it's current guise. I have placed in my class which is grade 2 a few types but in the next season I would be put up to grade 1 or experts. Not bad for the biggest and heaviest car there. There is all the usuals like the escorts, 1600's, rolla's FWD and RWD, and a whole bunch of FWD cars. At our events forced induction is fine aswell and the classes are set into times not vehicle types. It is a little soft at the moment but that can be easily fixed with some springs. There is a RA60 celica there that 3 guys are using and the corona always beats it. They have also had about 2 yrs up on me in that car.
