what exactly is going wrong with your engine??
Hey
Im still trying to get my engine to run right but we are getting closer, someone was telling me that a need to run dropping resistors before the injectors, and i have checked my engine and wiring diagram and that arent on either, so does the 3tgte need these resistors? also i really need a 3tgte diagram (that isnt simons) to copy off and double check everything, so if anyone could help it would be really appreciated coz my car is giving me the shits....
what exactly is going wrong with your engine??
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.
RIP, where ever you are :- 1974 celica, 3tgte and 186.5hp at 6500rpm
Hey,
well the engine is starting and runs, but misses badly and it dies shortly after that. Also it runs very rich on start up and then seems to lean out. but im a apprentice mechanic and the car is at my workshop and we have tested a lot of things including fuel, spark, dizzy, some of the wiring, AFM and TPS, and even had the ECU sent away to be tested which tested fine. So which brings me back to needing a factory 3tgte diagram as well as finding out if 3t's need dropping resistors, so lilcrash can you maybe check your engine out and see if you have dropping resistors? and how did you wire up your engine?
Cheers
Scott
Hmm my poor memory tells me that 3tgte did not run an injector resistor. I'm 99.9% positive actually.
After it starts, how long before it dies? I'm wondering if its only running on cold start injector?
Get some aerostart and keep spraying that into the inlet and see if it keeps running.. Then you know it's fuel injector issue.
well thanks for that turbora28, quite a few people have told me that it might be running on the cold start injector but if so, what is making the injectors not work? i know that the dizzy has a wire out of it into the igniter and on into the ECU which gives the injector pulse but we have tested that, and the injector relay which both seem to be fine. So any other ideas would be a great help...

Fuel injectors could be full of crap? possibly from a Dity/rusty fuel tank.

Best idea is to get an injector test light, $10 or so I think from repco?
Plug that into one of the injector plugs while the engine is running and see if its pulsing the injector.
Otherwise u are in the dark.
fwiw: i collected some 3T-GTE info for Simon who's in the TCC(Qld).
I'll put it up here for the next few weeks - it a wiring diagram, knock-control wiring diagram, Microtech drawings and a F9M settings/map file for (i think) a haltech running "1.8L DOHC 8V Twin-Plug Turbo motor running 4x550cc injectors, T3-T4 turbo and intercooler".

Also: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/P.../3T-GTEfi.html for pin-out info and info about the sensors.
ok, just to say it again, everything lil thing like the injectors being dirty and pulsing right has been checked....injectors have been flow tested and cleaned, and then we checked that they were all working which they are....
Thanks for your help chuckster, but those wiring diagrams on the mkhal...T site are straight from simons site, so thanks but i already have those...
Also can anyone tell me if i need injector resistors or not?
My memory is hazy but I dont think so as its not Bosch jetronic (NISSAN).Originally Posted by Ta22boy
The Pintara basic circuit will run a 3TGTE.
Looking at all the circuits and technical assistance available in 2006 I can't believe we actually got one of these engines running in 1986 using a 2TGTEU computer and no outside assistance.

You say the injectors have been checked and cleaned and pulsing etc.
But have you checked with a injector test light to make sure the ECU is actually firing them?
If so, when the engine starts to die as you say it does, is the ECU still firing the injectors?
Checked for vacuum leaks, the pipe to the AFM splits fairly easy. Will screw up for AFM readings big time.

Turbo RA28, Yeah we do still have a injector pulse at all times
But what i really need to know is DOES A 3TGTE USE INJECTOR RESISTORS, Seriously can anyone out there tell me, coz this is a joke
Scott
No it doesn't use injector resistors. I already said that. Have just checked wiring diagram and confiming NO.
My questions and everyone elses are to try and help diagnose the problem. It seems you are stuck on the idea it is power to injector problem. I seriously doubt this.
So the injectors continue to pulse even though the engine stalls.
Do you have access to a wideband 02 meter to check what is happening to the mixtures when the engine stalls? Is it leaning out? Or fueling right up?
Have you tried giving the fuel pump constant power to eliminate anything to do with power to the pump via the circuit open relay?
Hi Ta 22 boy
It has to be something you have overlooked like - Have all the earth straps been reconnected
