My thermostat is only a year old, reckon I should still change it?
What are you up to this afternoon Andrew? I might drop by and see if we can zip down to get that pulley and go to Toyota. I'll understand if you are busy though lol

OK,, I picked up a pump off a 2JZ GE to put on the shelf for a spare for my 1JZGTE Vvt ,(ex 97+ chaser) so if i ever need it, it won't fit....????
while you are doing the water pump maybe change the rest of the important shit too./....?
MX83 2JZ-GTE!!
#YOLO.
Doubt it will fit, they look pretty close in the illustrations, but there are subtle differences. Both are non-hydro however.Originally Posted by splatt

Judge for yourself.
I'm getting old and stupid, but all the part numbers from one drawing to the other seem to me to be the same???
yes im down for a group buy thing, as i have a refuud coming for closing a loan off early
Last time i got a 1jzgte waterpump from toyota which was about 2 weeks ago it cost me $108 inc gst. Came with both the o-ring and gasket. Thats trade price though.

1994 GZX90 Mark II 1GZ-FE V12
1980 MA45 Undergoing Restoration
there are 2 more o rings and a gasket you could also need on top of that though (fot the pipe that comes out the top of the pump and into the top housing, and possibly if you require it for the top housing gasket to the head)
hi guys if you like to give me your list of parts or just pumps with your price will se what i can do maybe better deal
Dropped the car off at Nova this morning, and judging by the trouble they are having getting the crank pulley off and removing the old pump, I am glad I didn't attempt this myself. Even air tools and using the starter motor would not shift the pulley bolt!
Hopefully will get the car back this evening or tomorrow.
Thanks again for all the help guys![]()

JZ engines are notorious for the pulley bolt being an absolute slut
As someone suggested earlier, change everything you can change while the pulley is off so you don't have to do it again any time soon (cam seals, front main seal, inspect harmonic balancer for damage to the rubber)... oh, and timing belt if it has an unknown history or is due in the next 10,000kms![]()
They finally finished the car at 11PM. It seems to run about 5-10 degrees hotter than before though! 90-100C. Also seems to be down on power a bit too. Maybe they stuffed up the timing marks on the cams etc? Retarding the timing might make it lose power and also run hotter? I had to look up a pic of a 1JZ on the net so they could work out which way the accessories belt goes lol
Did the cam seals, front main seal, timing belt, pump. They didn't fit the thermostat I supplied, they fitted the old one (only a year old). If it gives me grief I'll fit the 82C thermostat myself (same thermostat as a Prius!!)
Could be air pockets in the coolant, but we've burped it a few times. Just gave it a top up then of a small amount, and the overflow bottle seemed to take heaps before it came up.
Any other ideas why it might be running so hot?
Going to give it a TK test this arvo for BHGWe were revving it last night with the cap off and could see lots of tiny bubbles coming out from time to time, I hope it was not CO2.
I'm a bit of a carpochondriac sometimes though, always fearing the worst lol

after having just done a collant change, those tiny bubbles are normal.
from memory the 1j runs at 92 degrees from the factory?
That is a relief thenCould be my aftermarket temp gauge is not accurate. It is capillary style and starting to die. I'll buy an electric one soon.
Still don't know why it is down on power though![]()
