ke series with a 4ag in it! cheap fun easy to replace!
Sprinter with 4ag would be great but a bit more exxy!
Hello Modders,
Well Im planning on getting into some club level rally events, they also have Khanacross days too.
I had planned on a Celica XX, but the weight is a bit of a problem. Im just after some ideas, car and engine combinations, so go nuts, just keep in mind, cheap. Id like to give an idea of budget, but really, just as cheap as possible, that is, conversion wise. Has anyone here had any sucsess or know of some good combinations for Rally? Thanks guys,
Andy

yep, granpa one! ke20??
Interesting, well a corolla seems to be the go for cheapness, but a 4ag is hardly cheap, most cost as much or more than a KE... how much work in dropping in a 1G n/a?

You will not have a balanced car with a 1g in a ke series! besides, you will find it want be allowed in the rules??
Check the rules as you might want to do more than just club in it later etc!
might aswell do something you can keep awhile!
ra6x celica with 22r in should haul ok and be tough enough/cheap enough to fix
itll be a beater, but itll work well

I can vouch for the RA65 - great little car, with good balance.
Yes I had considered a xA61 celica, I used to own a RA60, 21R... but it did drift very controllably. The coupe would be better I imagine, less weight at the back. Ive driven a 85 corona with 22R, It was responsive for sure, but still a lump of SOHC metal... again, 1G? Why would this be disallowed?

1G would muck up the weight balance with a heavy i6 over the fronts and nothing in the rear. 4AGE's are hardly expensive. I'm sure it would be cheaper than the 1G.
Also, 1G might be against the rules. I know some rules say you have to keep the same number of cylinders.

dont go up to the xa61 celica supra, stay down in the ra65 territory. the 65 still gives you IRS and the 22r will outrun the 21r easily. plenty of bits for the 22r off the shelf from the states too. its not a real great performance engine, but they haul ok, and will move a gutted 65 around pretty well
or more realistically, just buy an esky or something someone else has already done the hard work on. WAY cheaper to do it this way

The 1G isnt heavy, Id wager it is close to the 22R in terms of weight, its only a 2 ltr, and designed to be as light as possible. And its cheap because I will have a spare one once the GZE goes in my XX.Originally Posted by Gavatron
Nark has a 1GGTE in his RA60...I will have to check the club rules, nothing is online for this club, its small atm. Are club rules individual to clubs or is there a national standard?

agreed with Ed - running an MA61 setup up as per the homologated version would limit you to a 5MGE engine (e.g. 12 valve head). There was one of these running in the Qld Rally C'ship in 2005 but the engine was highly strung (lots of head work, wild cams, HC pistons, 7MGE crank, etc..).
KE70 with the largest K-series engine would be fun - if you want to stick to clubman classes then a KE70 with a 4AGE would be much fun.
btw, Bond roll cages in Sydney will sell you a cams-legal 4-point bolt-in cage for a RA65 for about $600. When you start doing serious gravel work you could then spend some more cash and get the front legs and extra bits attached .

Thanks guys,
Im not thinking MA61, not at all.
Ok so two choices really,
RA65 with 22RE or depending on club rules, a 1G.
KExx with 4AGE...
Im leaning toward RA65, just because I love celicas so much...plus there is a coupe sitting at the local wreckers, complete except for engineIm going to check it out tommorow, and have a look around for rollas.

As you will be learning for awhile, the ke series being so light will be great to learn on! short wheel base so very good for direction changes, the celica would be better later on for higher speed stability, but in most rallies you wont be at very high speed![]()
