PS: These pics were original large hi-res TIFF images that have been resampled to lower res JPEG and resized to 800x600, so if there's anything you like and want to see the full detailed pic let me know.
PPS: Gee... most of the pics are Celicas!!!! How could that of happened!!!!I'm sure other members at the show would of taken many pics of the other wonderful cars for those sickos that get their jollies from non-oldschool Celicas!

Great work on the writeup and pics riv-dog
Hi,
Thanks Rona - but don't be such a tight arse. You should of repped a million people sicne you repped me, and it appears that you haven't and that breaks an old mans heart. And, I had a tube of delipadery (spell?) cream and I was gonna give you the twin look - but alas, you weren't there!
But fear not my monobrowed friend... let me tell you about the Show & Shine.....
The S&S wanted the old school cars to arrive first at the place so they could set them up, and then go through the years to the later models. We had to be there at 8:30am. Crikey, mother of god...
I decided the evening before to have a nice continental breakfast at the Dining room of the motel. Hmmm, I was thinking of poached eggs, hot toast with lashings of butter and jam, a pot of english tea and one of those ghey frecnh croissant things. Yanno.. continental sort of stuff. Well, was I wrong. It was some small packets of cereal, a glass of juice, mild warm tea and half cold toast - and you had to get it yourself!! There wasn't even any bacon or those little sausages.![]()
So, after a less than satisfying breakfast we (that is me and Riverina) made our way to the S&S area and all parked where we wanted and then were told to re-arrange ourselves. So, the old stuff was parked out the front on the nature strip, where the mighty RA25s were at the front. It was a good place for them until some pretty boy decided to park his old purple custom crown in front of us!
For the next hour or so the cars kept coming in and filled up the car park. There was a bedazzling array of Toyotas. There was also an MA61 with a 302 V8 and a VK (though I'm not up with all the various models, so it could of been something different) Commodore with a Toyota engine. Sorry, can't remember what it was, but it was a 6cyl DOHC turbo'd thing that looked like it would rapidly move that old aussie beast without too much fuss.
The two RA25s were parked together, which is something I doubt you'd ever see outside of Japan. Greg (RA25GT2000) you're a great guy and you've got a beautiful and rare car, but I got two words for you.... "chrome bumpers!"![]()
One of my faves was the beat-up, shit-condition RA28 that was exchange a few days before the Nats for a case of beer. And, I think the guy who got the beer may of got the better of the deal. Anyway the car was repsrayed in great haste in Power Ranger Yellow, and the bonnet was painted black (to cover the rust and the yellow couldn't cover it properly). After the new owners got a defect notice they highttailed it out of Adelaide and made their way, in the old clunker, to Dubbo. Top work nd ballsy stuff fellas! I was so impressed I took a photo and you'll see it on one of the above images I have posted. I hope it gets you back home again. The defects ranged from broken wipers, bumpers held on by cable ties, seat belts chewed off, no suspension, engine unrecognisable under the grease, oil and filth, no indicators or headlights, no hand brake, and someone had dropped a bog in the rear compartment.... and so on...
Awwww, you shoulda been there... under a lush azure sky... the smell of the bbq wafting in the breeze... hot chicks... Toyota enthusiasts... the handsome Hoff... all the wonderful cars... yep, you shoulda been there. The wind had a bite to it, especially in the shade and I regretted my choice of "going commando" and not wearing any underpants. Meh, you only once... even if it is for a long, long time like me!
There was a lot of old school which was good to see. And, you can tell it was a Toyota meet 'cos the bling factor was very low. Just nice cars with brutish power plants, classy custom paint jobs and sweet tasteful wheels.
The locals came and had a gander, and those with small genitals just roared past in their clunky Aussie V8s to show their dismay at being bogans.
I took the opportunity to go in and check out the SuperCheap shop and bought myself some spinner wheels and a 14inch chrome extension for the zorst. I got an extra 50kw out of the car after that and if they had some "dorifto sensei" stickers I would of put them on the car for another 50kw.
The S&S lasted until 1pm and after that the cars left, lined up behind one another and made a contest to see who can chirp their wheels the most and make their BOVs blow the loudest. The NA guys chuckled to themselves and cruised away in their usual classy manner.
The BBQ food was good, but by the time I had a sausage sandwich they had ran out of onions - which is perhaps a good thing 'cos they could make an old man a tad bowely and this is something which doesn't sit well with Riverina, especially in the confines of a small car.
Some of the crowd where going back to the motel to get the sleep they missed out on, some went back to get some hair of the dog and hit the piss again, some went back to fix their cars. I'm sure McWitzl would of pulled something off his car and rebuilt it. Others went off the the Dubbo Zoo where there was talk of who could drift the golf buggies the best. Alas, due to commitments, I had to leave the salubrious surrounds of Dubbo and go back to the big smoke.
And thus, my first Toyota Nationals had come to an all too quick end. Like MacArthur once said, "I shall return"... or maybe like Arnie "I'll be back", and yes I shall. It was great fun and next time I want to stay for the drags and watch some arse-kicking races, the smell of burning rubber and the crunch of diffs and gearboxes as they destroy themselves.
Until then, old man river has finished his ranctouering and leaves you with these parting words of wisdom to those that couldn't attend.... na na na na naaair, I was there and you weren't.. sucko!!!!![]()

1980RIP NATHAN BRETT DEAN2007,
Just got back, awesome weekend (the parts I can remember anyway). Here's a pic of my car sitting out near the drag strip in the middle of nowhere since I wasnt in any condition to be at the show and shine at 8.30 saturday morning
Chopped up a JZ or two on the strip too

Project megap00 - Gave up and sold up. Money tree died
good to see all that effort the night before replacing the hard to find bits paid off !! hope the poo patrol went well haha
cheers black
River - Awesome write-ups and some nice photos too. It will be good to see you stick around for the drags next year and set some blisteringly quick times with that tractor engine of yours
Matt - That photo looks shit-hot! Would I be correct in assuming late afternoon sun after the drags were finished and everyone was packing up?
Well I had a great time over the weekend as well (as if anyone who went along to the Nationals couldn't?!) A few people seemed surprised to not see me there in my car however the lure of air-conditioning and comfy seats (as well as the bonus of shared driving) made the decision to go in my girlfriend's new Corolla a cinch![]()
As usual, after a fun drive out there, the weekend focused loosely around cars - drinking beer - talking shit about cars - drinking more beer - having a roady - finding someone else to talk more shit to about cars - drinking more beer - and just generally having an alround good time. Oh, and there may have been some cars and beers involved as well
Saw some REALLY REALLY nice machinery there over the weekend, some good action at the drags and had a nice pedal around the zoo on Saturday arvo as well. After leaving from the drags around 1:30 (we came straight home last night to "beat the public holiday traffic") we had a great run home until we hit the mountains, after which it took around 3 hours to get back to Liverpool from Mt Victoria(hopefully everyone who's coming back today has a good run!!)
I'd just like to send out a HUGE thanks to Grant, Dave and everyone else who played a part in organising this extremely successful and well run event. Without all the hard work of the organisers something like this could never take place, and to have everything run so smoothly over the weekend is a huge credit to all of you. I look forward to many future Nationals
As with River and a few others above I've also got a bunch of photos that I'll try and get online soon.
Hope everyone else had as good a time as me, and I'll see you all again soon.
Hi,
Absolutely!! Grant, Dave and all the Toyota Nationals organisers did a top job and kudos to you. Excellent work.Originally Posted by AE92GTi
