I will soon be putting a 3T-GTE in the TA22, so was seriously thinking of going with the Microtech LTX10s, mainly due to the fact that im a n00b when it comes to ECUs and turbos, but Ive gotta start somewhere. (thought ive selected Factory/None on the poll since i dont actually ahve it yet)

So microtech seems reasonably cheap, easy to install and is pretty popular, so should be able to get enough support on it. Although there are some cons ive read about (and youre gonna get cons with everything anyway IMO), there are also a lot of pros, so I think it would at least be a good place to start.

Reading this thread has been pretty good anyway, good place to learn

Ive gone for MS2, although its not in the car yet.
Main reasons for my choice are cost, DIY and the learning factor as well as many of the points mentioned previously.

I've had an E6K for years, I knew the Haltech software* when I got it and they had a good name. It's been 100% reliable over several years (and engines).

I have a Haltech in my 323, simply because I got it cheap.

For the starlet I am currently looking at getting an Adaptronic as it is extremely cheap and being a new product has excellent support from its creator who is still trying to expand the market for it. Self tuning on the adaptronic is also a bonus as i plan on doing tuning myself, this is a feature not available below the new Haltech E8 and Autronic ECU's except for in the Adaptronic.

I'm using a Wolf 3D v4 on my 1JZGTE. Great ECU, come with plug-ins for most engines, except a 1J ( ) But, the universal kit is alot cheaper then a plug in... The hand controller is pretty easy to use, with Data Loggin functions being a big plus, also with the cartridge that goes in the ECU so you can swap maps. Some people use a Fuel Economy map and a power map. So theres another good feature.. Also the computer software has 3D Fuel and Ignition Map displays, and i think there is also a dashboard function. Also theres a new Wolf out, the V500, i havent had any feedback on it, nor have i had any experience with it, but from what i've heard, it seems to be a pretty good computer.

Finally got to the 100 mark! Thanks heaps guys for all your effort, i'm slowly trying to rep everyone that contributed. It's been interesting to note the different responses I get back from each forum, including having my thread locked, saying i'd have to pay them for them to bother! People skills, some people just don't have em

Good question. I too have heard a lot about it on another forum but I wonder what flexibility it can offer being a "piggyback" system.

That being said I'm considering one at this time, simply because I can't afford the time and money on something better. I certainly prefer not to have to take it to a tuner everytime I want to change something.

I voted for Wolf3D as it's one I've had a little experience with and when set up properly it can produce really pleasnt results in a daily driver (from the variety of cars I've seen). The handset is great in that you can make those little changes (once you can navigate your way around) as you need.

The MS sounds great and I'd tackle this as I have the knowledge to be able to program it but I haven't yet been convinced that my car won't be off the road for 3 months while this happens

I've used an emanage before on my AE71 ghetto 4a-gte. It did the job, but certainly had it's shortcomings.

The main point to consider is that you are still for the most part limited by the controls and algorithms of the factory ECU, which means that if you are modifying a signal more than what the factory ECU's protective algorithms allow you are going to have some trouble.

I used it on a stock 100kW 4age with a turbo added. Used an AE92 map sensor 4agze ecu and map sensor, 100kw dissy/ignitor, and rest was 100kW sensors.

    Problems:

    - ECU does not like the ignition signal being modified more than ~5-6deg. limp mode ensues. FIX: a nifty little circuit that generates the IGf signal from the IGt signal before the IGt signal is modified.

    - KNOCK CONTROL!!! You cant avoid it. You cant tune around it. If it happens, you're stuck with it. I was stuck with it... and couldnt fix it.

Beyond that, they are pretty good for the price. You just need to discuss your plans with your tuner to see if it will be capable of what you want to achieve.
