Well i took the RT-615 out with the mr2 club this weekend. flogged the bejesus out of them. including a few runs up the hillclimb circuit.

i was expecting to bring them back worn with noticable feathering and chunks missing and alas nothing they are just fine.

Also there were a few points over the weekend with a decent bit of rain and moisture.. they held on just fine no dramas. oh but on dirt they dont work real well

    Incredible!

If they wear well, then I'll be over the moon.

I've got some 32Rs now and they seem to be working OK, I can just manage to get them to spin by being really stupid out of the tight corners at Wakefield. I occasionaly find them noisy, but it is very road surface dependant. Most Canberra roads they are damn near silent.

i think for street use though the 32r's tend to go off to oquickly though.. wher the 615 whilst not as sticky is more street oriented and has much better heat cycling properties.

I got told today by my tire guy that the 615s are only available in 17s and 18s so far, can anyone confirm? I had my heart set on them to replace my fubar'd 115s but can't get either!

Finney, what did you end up going with? The toyos?

No idea. I only asked for (and got) 18s.

I know they make them down to 15" sizes, but whether you can get them in Australia is another question.

Ah Finney, your in the same boat as me chasing decent tyres for 16" wheels in almost non-existant profiles. I ideally run 205/45R16 (can't run anything larger in diameter on the front) but would run a 205/40R16 if that was all I could get a particular tyre in e.g. RT615 is apparently made in this size

I have run RT215s on my car (rear) for the past 3 years and rate them fairly highly (good enough for 1.7 second 60' times at WSID and quite good at Wakefield), if the RT615s are better then I will be very happy (especially happy as I will be able to run them on all 4 corners). I like the RT215s for the fact they take very little heat to offer reasonably good grip.

Yeah, i'm looking for 205/45/16 and finding that its a little hard to get what you want. So 205/40/16s eh? I could probably handle the decrease in sidewall and rolling diameter... Not ideal though, i kinda like the idea of staying on correctly sized tyres.

im currently running the 615 and cant speak highly enough of them. not too much to get them warm and they work a treat. works fairly well in the wet too. i would rate them on par in the wet with a entry level sports tyre. and in the dry heaps better then a standard sports but not as good as a full semi slick

As max said, the rt615 is available in smaller sizes - there are quite a few options for 16" rims in terms of rt615 sizes, but you'll need to find a place that stocks it - maybe go to a good tyre place and ask them to call their supplier and ask if they can get it in. Tempe tyres generally have a good range, but unless you're buying bling they tend to be unhelpful ****s. GT: I don't know where you're located in NSW, but baulkham hills tyre king is a falken specialist, did wonders for me on the azenis on my old supra, so they could be worth a try.

haven't bought any tyres yet GT, mainly due to my lisence loss. but i am very keen on the 615's as from what i have found they will be coming out in 205/40 R16's which is ideal for my car and the rolling diameter.

for the corolla 45's increase it by 12mm and 40's decrease by 8mm which means my speedo will show a marginally faster speed than what i'm travelling which is what i'd prefer.

GT, you'll ifind that there are a lot more tyres available in the 45 profile. When i was looking at buying my current 205/40's it was very hard to find any half reasonable tyres.

I'm just looking into this as i'll be partaking in a few track days this year and wondering whether i should fork out the money for a set of these. I'm aware that they aren't the cheapest but i'm not looking at keeping them on all the time as i've heard that with just city driving you'll be pushing to get decent life out of them due to the softer compound.

Any advice would be much appreciated
they a sensational for track days but a couple of thousand km is all they give and less if there hard track days.
best way is to buy a spare set of rims for them and bolt them on at the track. on softer compounds its more of , how many heat cycles they go threw than km's.
the trick to make them last a little longer is to bolt them on new at the track, do a couple of quick but not slide or lock up etc. get the temp into them and bring them in to completely cool down! then you can go for your live. just remmeber when they get hot and bead off that if you lock a wheel you will have a mega flat spot compared to normal driving on a normal road tire! slicks are really bad for it.
ive thrown many a new $400 slick into the bin because they where hot and then had a weighted wheel lockup.

certainly this is the case for tyres like the r888, d01j, a032r etc. the nice thing about the rt-615 is that it isnt *quite* such a serious compund. and hence dosent tend to suffer quite the same heat cycling issues as the more serioius race tyres. but obviosuly the trade off is lower grip. that said you will still flat spot them without too much grief if you lock them up especially when they are hot.

Im looking for a pair of semi slicks, i got advans on the back now, but need new fronts. I think i need to run 195/50 -15's to clear the guards, and i really do mean it, the 205/60's hit now after a quarter turn. Any ideas on what would be best for me ? i will mostly be doing mountain passes and some sliding at the track. Anyone got links to some of these modles ? Im just keen for a read up

    Wes.

By the way, i have 15x8 or 8.5's front n rear, any advice would be great!
