I'm no steering expert, but is the angle of the steering arms an issue the way this is now? Eg With the wheels in central position the steering arms are not parallel to the x member, should they be?

    Cheers,
    Simon
Yes, it has been made for a TA22 and was in mine until I pulled it out to be fully welded and reinforced. I did have it all bolted up to the struts and caster arms and it was sweet. Caster arms bolted up fine and did not even need to be wound out or in from when it had the TA22 x member, control arms, steering arms, and draglink/steering box.

The mounts on it have also been moved to hold a Gen 3 3SGTE. There are pics of the motor in the engine bay in my members rides thread - a link to which is in my sig.

It retains 1 original KE70 bolt hole on the xmember, but another one was drilled into the for it to bolt into the TA22 through the standard chassis holes.

Sam, this response also answers your Q.

Edit: Simon, not sure if you are referring to how the wheels will toe in/out but I will need to wind out the tie rods and sort out the alignment. It is however well within adjustable range, and those tie rods are wound very far in in that pic. When I get a chance though I will confirm.

No what I mean is the "rod" that goes from the tie rod to the rack isn't parallel to the cross member. Eg the arm is further away from the x member at the wheel compared to the pivot point on the rack, just wondering if this is an issue?

    Hope that makes sense...

I'm keen to do something like this for my TA22 with 3T GTE, anyone modded the KE70 member for a T series engine?

next on my list, I hope to do some work on it this weekend. The KE70 mounts look fairly compatiable however they will have to be moved about 20mm backwards. When done I can post pics but it will be a few weeks

Nope, as the steering arm turns it brings the tie rod closer to, and then past parallel.

I haven't measured it but ideally it would be parallel at 1/2 lock either way, and then at the same angle as it is now at full lock either way. I'll wind the rack from lock to lock and get some photos of what I mean if that doesn't make sense.

no sadly, things are not looking too good on my end right now. I do have a spare prototype 16/20v crossmember sitting here though.

Can anyone confirm that the ae86 struts will work in the ta22? (with the steering box) Any major issues with any of the steering connecting gear etc? Much appreciated

    Hows everyone's progress coming along.

I'd be keen to see some pictures of the steering with the KE70 setup (lock to lock etc) as well as other people's progress.

Poida - ae86 struts will work in a ta22 ( I have them in mine) im not sure on which steering arms i have on the bottom of themI think they are the ta22 ones though.

you need to swap the top hats on the struts over as they have a different pcd, and from memory they have different sized springs two.

however i have chewed out the inside of both my front tyres....sooooo adjustable tophats would be my pick so you can sort out the camber.

so all in all, yes they work but you will want to get ta22 adjustable tophats to put on them

sorry to dig up an old thread, but, i saw this today and remembered many people working through the trials and tribulations of R&P for their TA22's
this was done in an XL/M Ford Falcon wagon.

It uses a Camira power steering rack, and as you can see, the alloy bar held by the two bolts in the middle is what drives the steering, it is sufficiently long enough to pick up the Falcon inner tie rods.
Its another piece in a never ending puzzle, but may give someone an idea.
    Hope this helps,

That's an interesting idea Grega, you could create adjustable bumpsteer curves with a bar like that with 3-4 holes in each end for tie-rod length adjustment... So much simpler than shortening an *E7* rack to optimise bumpsteer characteristics

Any picture/idea of how the Camira rack input spline can be mounted to a TA22 steering column?
