(Moved from classic celica thead)
Trying to swap over the callipers on my car today, and i found at the very last minute that the brakes lines are different. In the pics below, the old dirty calipers are the ones i'm taking off, and the nice new shiney red ones are going on... (note they're different types) in the pic below you can see the 2 different ports, the original is suited for rubber line, where as the one with red on it, is suited for steel brake lines... now, my question is what do I do now? When dana put these style calipers on her car she used RA60 brake lines, but said it wasn't because of the fitting, but rather, because they were longer.
any suggestions?
sheepers - I checked for that olive, but found i couldn't remove anything from the port of the red calipers, i'm not sure what the problem is though, i can screw the little red fitting into the old calipers, so the thread type is the same, but i can't even get the blank/flared part of the fitting with the rubber line past the thread of the red calipers.Originally Posted by sheepers
going to re-assess the situation today, and see if i can figure it out...
EDIT: Just had another good look at the callipers, and it appears that the only difference is the start point for the tapered thead, on the red callipers, it seems that the thread start is smaller then the old callipers... i can almost get the rubber hose fitting into one of the calipers, but it damaged the thead a bit (managed to ressurect it though), it seems as though the end of the flare is just too wide for these callipers...now that i think about it... i might just file the outer most edge a bit...
any reason why the seats might be a different angle and not seal as well???
Double edit: Just filed down the outer edge of that flare, and it fitted together nicely... tried to install the 2nd calliper, and turned out that the thread that i damaged a bit is now completely fucked... so not impressed atm...

The details are in his thread...Originally Posted by IN 05 NT
yep, looks pretty simple aswell!
yeah it made out of thick flat steel plate that bolts to where the dust shields were, with 2 more tabs welded on to space the caliper out to the right distance and have enough meat to tap a thread into it.

I'm most of the way through this conversion for my ke35 (using r32 GTR calipers/rotors instead though) but I know sfa about which inserts and spring rates/combination I should use, any reccomendations there? Given that it will be mostly street with a bit of track action. Thanks

it will depend on the weight of your car.
i'm running 5.5kg springs in the front of my silly with mr2 inserts and it is stiff. still need to take it for a decent test drive to see how things go, but on the street but thats about as stiff as ill ever go. have a hunt around the members rides and see what other ppl have done in cars of similar weight to yours and take it from there.
Cheers Mike

ke35 is about 870 kg but will be crankin' some sr20 or 4g63 action so will be a tad heavier up the front. How did you decide on the mr2 inserts?
