    Question ae82 twincam handbrake issue

    Hi Guys,

I am having some issues with the handbrake on my corolla. It is next to useless in holding th car on even the slightest hill.

the car has brand new pads and discs and the handbrake cable has been adjusted to the normal amount of clicks.

With the car up on jacks and the handbrake on, it is not possible to spin the disk by hand so it must be doing something.

I was thinking maybe the calipers are siezed, but I'm not too sure.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

It could also be that you have stretched the actual handbrake cables. I had to replace these on my SX Seca.

Silly question but you are adjusting the handbrake cable with handbrake off?

Also remmeber the weight of a car on a hill is a lot more then you turning the wheel when it is jacked up.

After you adjusted the handbrake cable, was there much tension when applying said handbrake?

    Thanks for the replies.

The thought that the cable is stretched has crossed my mind, however the fact that I can adjust it to within the normal number of "clicks" makes me think it isn't?

Silly question but you are adjusting the handbrake cable with handbrake off?
Quite sure it was off. This might make me look stupid, but would it make much difference?

After you adjusted the handbrake cable, was there much tension when applying said handbrake?
Yes, it felt completely normal; ie, after about 6 clicks it won't go any further.
