    Default reservoir fluid extraction

With out going to the trouble of a small electric pump, battery, wiring, switches, hoses etc. What is the best way to "vaccum" fluid from reservoirs - ie power steering, brake, clutch, even overflow bottles ??

The only good suggestion i've heard was a large syringe ???

    What do you use ??

I use a big arse syringe with a bit of vac hose on the end, that works a treat. It helps when you can get the syringes from work for free too.

syringe is the go, previously i have used a length of hose and the vacuum effect.

    1. stick bit of hose in resevoir

    2. stick finger over top

    3. pull hose out of resevoir

    4. put hose over top of gatorade bottle

    5. take finger off top of hose (fluid falls out into bottle)

    go to step 1.

takes a long time, i did it when i fitted new brake pads and had to get rid of the excess fluid, really should change my fluids now i think of it.

Large syringe would be the easiest...

But, if you have access to an air compressor with an air nossle, you can:

Step 1: Place a piece of tubing (fuel hose, vacuum line, etc...) into the fluid.

Step 2: Place the air nossle in the reservoir, and seal with your hands (having the tubing and the air nossle being the only things that are coming through your created seal).

    Step 3: Apply the air...

This will cause the pressure to build up and expell the liquid through the tubing!

Go to chemist and ask for a 50 mL Tuohy catheter tip syringe (this way nobody looks at you like you're some drug fucked piece of shit). Bit of vac hose on the end ftw.

I have an old battery specific gravity tester (Hygrometer) that performs these tasks admirably. Comes complete with flexible end !!

    cheers Chuck.

Some ATF bottles can be sort-of alright for this purpose, but the electric pump = the winner really.

Or just use a long clear hose and suck until the fluid is nearly to the end of the hose.
    Doesn't take long at all.
My sig has been pruned as it was over 5 lines long.

use a piece of thick cloth (like a towel) as a wik. Just sit the end in there and dangle the rest into a container for brake fluid or over the side it it's water.

    But a syringe is nice.

i used a coke bottle with a hole in the lid, a piece of tube through the lid and sealed up with blue tack. then just squeeze the bottle and stick the hose in the reservior and release. its good and itll empty a master cylinder in a couple of squeezes.

If you're really desperate you can use a liquid soap dispenser head. Takes a fair few pumps though.
