    Default MX62 manual conversion

My friend and I were throwing some ideas around about his MX62 cressida and he said he would like it more if it were manual.

I called some wreckers and got some prices on gearboxes, bell housings, clutch cylinders etc but no one could help me with a pedal box.

Are there any other models of toyota, MA61 etc that would have a pedal box to go into an MX62 or will it have to remain auto.

It is staying 5m-e and a supra box would be used.

pedal box from xt130 corona *might* be an option for pedal boxes? or ra40s... just going by rough generation... ra6x/ma61 stuff might be better suited possibly.

    I have done this.

*MA61, MA70 for the bellhousing, clutch, flywheel
*xA6x, SA63 for the clutch lines (hard and soft)...require a little bit of bending to fit...but overall OK.
*xA6x, SA63 for the clutch master and slave (buying new isn't expensive!)
*Any W55, W57, W58 gearbox (xA6x, RT142, xA70, etc) will suit. MA61 / RA6X / RT142 shifter position is what they came with from factory. (I used a SA63 position as that is what I had, I had to slightly cut the floor. If you use the 'proper' position you will most likely have to cut forward of the existing hole. xA70 shifter position would come up pretty close with no cutting I suspect...but this does not mean it is the correct position )
*MX32 Cressida auto gearbox xmember (turn the gearbox mount around).
*~80mm longer tailshaft...I had a custom one piece shaft made as I couldn't find something that bolted in from something else, not to say there isn't something as I didn't search that hard....
*I used a ST142 pedal box (same as xA6x, and RT142 I believe). it wasn't a direct fit...the clutch master bolt holes are correct, however the mounting holes under the dash are incorrect, i made a small bracket so taht the top bolts were supported / connected.
*the clutch pedal will be all wrong....I modified a RA65 pedal (with much work), I bent it removed the clutch pedal foot section and re welded it on straight....(re Viper RA40 and XT130 are the old style clutch master bolt pattern and wont fit!)

For the clutch pedal I would suggest trying to get in touch with someone in NZ (or ?) and sourcing a GX61 pedal! (we didn't get them hear but I believe there are a few floating around in NZ...crUZida had / has one in his MX73...another option maybe MX32 which I didn't get a chance to look into.

Neutral start switch is simply a connector to plug in when the auto is removed, very easy, no cutting / soldering etc.

That should be pretty well ALL your questions answered! Any others shoot...

    Cheers
    Wilbo

From memory MX32 (I think it was an MX36 wagon) bolted straight in, both clutch pedal/bracket and brake pedal.

I managed to find a wrecking GX61 and used that people in my MX73, a 95% perfect fit.

On the upside who on earth is going to come and look at a thread involving MX62 cressida's anyway!

This is not exactly going to be a high traffic thread is it

GT could have posted it somewhere where people would actually go and look!
(*dammit man don't give him ideas!*)....

Ps I wish my street looked like this....

If Dave wasn't such a damn nice guy I reckon ppl would complain!

Funnily enough the only people who have ever complained were the druggies next door (who regularly engage in 4am shouting matches and stubbie throwing) Admittedly it was 2am and I had just finished wiring up the 1UZ in the Crown wagon....no exhaust and back part of the garage open ftw!

Handy to know the MX32 stuff fits easily (enough). Everything is pretty much as wilbo said.
