Default C52 Gearbox and Spigot Bearing

Ok, i know the 4AGs with the C52 come from factory without a spigot bearing, but if a spigot bearing was in the end of the crank woudl it interfere with the C52.
Im guessing that there isnt any provision for the spigot bearing on the C52 and so it should be a non issue.
    Just want to confirm though.

In theory you'd have to think it certainly couldn't cause any harm. Providing the input shaft fits inside the spigot bearing I can't see how it could interfere at all.

Is the motor you're using ex-RWD or something? Pulling the spigot bearing out isn't an option?

do the fwd boxes have spigots? if not, doubt it would interfere unless the input shaft is longer front the friction disc to the crank.

Im just doing a clutch on an FWD car, and the easy clutch lining up tool i have relies on there being a spigot bearing in there. I cbfed lining up by eye or by some other tool, so i was just going to pop one of my spare spigot bearings in there to line it all up.

Well assuming the spares fit over the input shaft on the c52 no worries then pop it in and line it up, else don't be so lazy and line it up by eye or get creative with a socket and an extention bar.. couldn't possibly take more than 5 - 10 minutes even without the perfect tool

Yeah, but when its still in the engine bay i get very lazy, lining up clutches then is annoying.
Ill see what the input shaft looks like when i take it out i guess.
From memory they dont have any extension into the crank at all.

    hey crisco

just go by feel, pop the pressure plate on lighty, and push the friction plate around through the gaps between the pressure plate and flywheel.
you can get it pretty close to perfect, alignment smalignment i say

or you can cut the end off your alignment tool, not all of it, leave just enough so the end of it still locates in a spigot, you only need a few mm, that will get you far enough in to center it

    Dan

p.s. what happened to not playing with fwd stuff anymore
The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new

Heh, im not playing with FWD stuff. Just doing a friend a favour after he gave me a heap of gear from his old RA40.
If it ends up that i cant pop a spigot bearing in ill just do it by feel, im still pretty used to that. Just feeling lazy atm, esp as i have to put the clutch/gearbox back into the race car tomorrow morning too.

For the record it was my car he was helping me do the clutch on, an AE82 Twin Cam. Didn't have a spigot so we did it by feel. Is all working fine so assuming a complete success...*crosses fingers *
