Advice on OFFSET for ST185 wide body

hey chris Aussie make good stuff, and I have to say, the quality is remembered after the price is forgotten.. can you hang on and buy one a bit later?

everyone here seems to have more experience with offsets than me, but I'll be doing everything in my power to fill my guards even if Mr H&R has to come to the party

I run an Aussie downpipe with no boost control and I get a maximum of about 11psi. This is with full custom 3" system and hi-flow cat.

Don't see why an ebay downpipe would be a problem. As suggested, just make sure it is a good design and will not foul the wastegate flap which can be an issue with some DPs

Aussie is mild steel, but stainless should not be a problem.

I would say marginal based on height alone.
That will through your speedo out by a reasonable margin, and won't be legal (if that worries you)

As a follow up...

I now have 225/45/17 Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001's fitted on the 17x7 +40 wheels.
Fronts are perfect
Rears sit in a bit too far and do scrape occasionally. Small spacers will fix it.

As ive said before... RE001's are awesome tyres.
I highly recommend them for a quick street car.
They are incredible in the wet, and very very good in the dry.

As always thanks RobST162 for a great advice I will wait till I have enough saved as I don't know of anyone here who can fabricate a good design (Matty P suggested -thanks).

There is also a concern about boost spiking in relation to downpipes. Can someone put a light on this subject? All I read about this is when there is a relatively high amount of air flowing through (especially without a high flow cat) it creates a spike or uneven boost pressure. Any truth to this?

To the other subject of wider stance what about the pressure it creates on the bearings with bolt-ons or spacers?
Is it something that I should worry about? Have you had any problems with the bearings Rob? or anyone for that matter.

How in the heck is running a spacer any different than running a lower offset.

ie, +38 wheel with a 25mm spacer in effect becomes a +13mm offset wheel. In primitive terms.

By the time you get someone to fabricate something, you'll have spent the same money as an Aussie pipe.. and an Aussie pipe has so much RnD behind it. you know it's awesome.. and has the bracket for the block and ports for air/fuel sensors

Really, I wouldn't bother with anything other than an Aussie for the DP. If an ebay one came up with a very similar design at half the $$$ then it might be worth considering.

Re: spacers, I have heard the theories about extra weight on the wheel studs etc.. and I don't buy it. As you say, effect should be the same as different offset wheels.

The effect is the same as different offset wheels, but it WILL cause quicker wear if you change the offset (via different wheels or spacers) by too much. How much quicker really depends on the offset change and the particular car.

Hi Chris I am running a full Aussie system from the turbo through to the rear axel and it is probably the best money I have spent on the car, the note is spot on and the fit was near perfect
With the dump at least don’t skimp on quality and cost do it once do it right and the right way in my opinion is Aussie with the ceramic coating

You are definitely right YG. It's getting a bit too expensive if you add it all up I'm just trying to cut down on the cost but it is skimping on quality.

the ebay item is of the same design but I don't know much about the quality here is what it says
"This Turbo dump pipe is built from Top Grade SUS304 Stainless Steel and is precision Mig welded to high quality cast endplates that ensure no warping and perfect machine face fit".
Item number: 370227976831 if anyone is curious and the price is $145. I am not trying to justify myself by mentioning this downpipe on ebay (or maybe I am?) but I will heed Rob's advice and wait till I have enough saved (I am married with children. LOL . You know what I mean).
