Separating outer CV joint from driveshaft

Has anyone had success in replacing the outer CV joint boot on a AE82 Corolla without removing the entire drive shaft from the car?

This will involve separating the out board CV joint from the drive shaft but the workshop manual said do not dismantle the out board joint. It said to remove the drive shaft from the car and then remove the inner joint, followed by the inner boot and the damper, only then you can get to the outer CV joint boot !!!! A lot of hassles when the only thing that is ripped is the outer CV joint boot.

cv's........ you win some, you loose some.

doing it the workshop way, there is no chance of damaging the outer cv (from belting the shit out of it, trying to get it off the shaft (tho sometimes they can just pop off))

price up a cv and boot kit,
price up a complete shaft complete with cv's.

weigh up time vs money.

either way, its an easy job.

ive removed outer cv's before and replaced boots, but usually i replace the cv at the same time.

If you are in Sydney go to A&L Driveshafts located near Beverly Hills and easy accessed off the M5. The last three sets of driveshafts I replaced for three different vehicle brands cost between $160 to $180 a pair. It not worth wasting the time fixing the old driveshaft unless you have plenty of time.
