And I think every person on this forum knows that. Just like the fact you can only go 2" increase in wheel diameter, and 1" increase in wheel width over factory.

And I think most people here don't care.

Is there not a porshce that comes/came from the factory with spacers?

I know it is completely different as manufacturers can get away with a lot more than us humble modifiers

There might have been spacers fitted as standard and yes manufacturers can put spacers on because they often spend huge amounts of money on proof testing plus they can easily design the suspension to cope with the increased offset. They also carry all of the legal liability that goes with it. See what answer you get from the guy at the local auto store when you ask if he/she guarentees the product safe especially if you intend to sue for $20 million damages because your own insurance company won't cover the claim.

be carefull buying second hand rims. as i've seen and heard some horror stories about badly buckled rims, not stated at the point of sale. some are so bad there is contact at the strut tube when rotated. eghey sellers are renouned for this problem/con....

I would say marginal based on height alone.

That will through your speedo out by a reasonable margin, and won't be legal (if that worries you)

215/45/17 is less illegal, can be found with the correct load rating, and will fit, and will make your speedo read a poofteenth too low (like 0.2km/h)

235/40/17 is also an option, but may be tight on a 7" rim...

215/40/17 are on it at the moment and the speedo is spot on (checked using GPS).

The problem is the ride is VERY harsh, so i want to increase the sidewall height a bit to help with that.

Speedo being out doesnt bother me, will use the GPS instead.

Wow, thanks for all the information but I have one more inkling question regarding the spacers, I was informed that it will put a lot of pressure on the bearings and this could prove costly (especially with 4WD). One suggested that I get wheel hubs (illegal ?) instead of spacers as thay are more secure unlike the spacers (illegal) it uses less of the bolt to secure the wheels.
Mine is similar to Matty P but lowered (severely) running 18 x 225 x 40 and about 15mm of that is above the guard.Will post pics if anybody is interested.
To another topic,,,, downpipes??? I hear things like spikes in the boost pressure. Is this good or bad? I basically have a stock set up and been wanting to add extra oomph with a downpipe. I currently have 2.5 inch from cat back and I was reading in some forums to gut the cat (illegal) instead of buying stainless steel ($120 ebay) as they tend to crack with the heat generated.
I can't afford Aussie Downpipes as they cost $450 !!!!!!! Anybody here has an Aussie downpipe for sale?
Anyway. Thanks again for all your help. Where would I be and my ST185 without all of you and Toymods. I recently replaced a HFH with the help from all of you and I honestly wouldn't have done this without you all.

Yeah this thread was started 2006 but it's never too late to learn. I certainly do.

But now I am more wiser and older and I still have my beloved GTFOUR which I'm sure you all know how I feel (no money but happy).

In regard to cracking of stainless, I don't think it's true. It's more to do with design than material. I put a full stainless steel system from engine to rear on a car in 1972 and sold it last year in 2008 and it was still OK. The only fault I had was the weld on the first muffler erroded away from years of gas & soot particles going over it. All I did was to run another weld bead around it and that was it.

And yep you are right towards the design rather than the material. The item to which I am refering to is some items on eBay that are sporadically showing up just to get your hard earned dollars and in my situation I tend to lean towards these less than (I think) professionally created downpipes as I can not afford the $450 Aussie Exhausts are charging and I don't know of anyone here in Brisbane that can custom made these things.

Has anyone have any experience or knows of someone who has used the downpipes from eBay? Any information is very much appreciated.
