I'd like to add further to the attracting of new forum users.

Toymods is not a household name, we don't to major advertising etc. whilst a few people may join through word of mouth, the majority would find the site whilst searching for information about a problem they are having with their car, or a car the are doing research on purchasing.

People do not type in google "crap stuff" and Toymods shows on the front page (at least I hope not.)

from there anyone "lurking" may search the site for more info, if they have a question or feedback on a topic they join and ask. This is what the club is promoting and what the forums is about. From there if they post good info and are generally well behaved the social side appears. I don't see the outhouse being a major draw card.

The rules keep getting bought up because people simply don't follow them. It is a small percentage that screw it for everyone. The rules are clear (generally).

Now the Non car discussion area......
the club has provided a place for discussion. posting a link to a video rarely turns into discussion. As a moderator of that section that is my line.

As for what to do about it, I'm pretty sure alot of financial members wouldn't miss it.
The other options that were concidered when this forum was created were as follows...
    1. that there would be a $10 (or so) forum fee. but this goes away from what the club is trying to provide.
2.there would be a $10 (or so) forum fee which got you access to Classifieds and Non car.
    3. No classifieds and / or Non car discussion areas
4 Non car and Classifieds for Club members only
    5. As the forums currently stand.

I believe that alot of forum users take the forums too much for granted. The rules are as they stand (or modified from time to time to clarify or make things more obvious for the lazy) because the Board wanted to provide as much as they could, but at the same time keep the first and foremost aims of the club in practice. What you see now is the realisation of that aim.

yes rules may be massaged from time to time. but for the most part the forums currently run at a happy medium between tech info and the social aspect.

    Cheers
    Simon

So, that's 19 posts deleted in a month out of approx 200 posts. Now, I've gone to the bother to find these gems, the least I expect is for those people that say that we kill their fun and lock posts (as though we lock every post there is), please go and read through the above posts and let me know what scintillating fun and wit they found. In other words, what locked posts from the above list are worthwhile and deemed to be necessary to fulfill your enjoyment of these forums?

In regards to this theory, i was thinking that maybe put a fee on the technical side of things.. that way you are more than likely to get the genuine people to hang around here as a source of information instead of a random chit chat.. although very debatable..

Just an idea to put things into a different perspective.

that actually shits me a lot.

The UK supra club has had to do this to keep their forums running.. you get something like 40 posts, then you have to join to keep posting.
I'm personally glad toymods hasn't had to go that way yet, because I know how shirty I was about having to pay a sign-up fee to a club in another country.

fair enough, but did it in your experience keep any 'pointless' threads being created? EG did the fee actually achieve anything or did it jsut deter people from joining and llearning, imputting, sharing projects, ideas and so forth ?

    I don't know
I purely go there for technical resources, and it stopped me from being a regular.

ah ok, well i guess that puts that idea out of contention anyway, was good to explore it but somehow i dont see this arguement/problem settling unless something is going to be implemented, just hard to find what, too many rules will deter people i guess on one side, but on the other hand fee's and what not will also deter people from what we have just discussed, although membership to the forum may give you rights to tech forums for example as it has with members only areas, this way u get your toymods gear, giving to the cause and getting in return... but anyway goodluck with it that was just my 2cents worth

Black... putting a price on the tech side is against The Toymods Car Club main aim (which is to provide a free technical resource) It would also deter too many people that can provide valuable infomation.

Interestingly enough I was looking on other forums and the general principle of the rules are the same. People on other forums just abide by them and they aren't dragged up every other post.

Nice neg rep rampage IN 05 NT.

Revenge neg repping is not only immature but lame.

Grow up, and get over yourself. So much for you not ranting.

In the future, read the rules or deal with the consequences. And that doesn't mean creating a thread to whinge about black and white basic rules that define and bound a community.

Without rules there would be chaos.
