Dude, I've got a Caldina. I'm in the same boat as the 165, ie nothing available off the shelf in oz.
I just got springs sent from NZ.

And I'll be doing mine by jacking it up on the street in front of my house.

It's just that blanket statements like the one you made cqan't take in every situation, and are therefore not true, and I'll admit that I'm guilty of this myself.

No, your not in the same boat, Caldinas came many years after st165's so the boats woud have to be different, if you get what Im saying.

If you want to do it on the street do it on the street, well done, tell the grandkids.... BUT, my rear sub frame is bent, so I am getting a full straight st185 rear, diff, hubs and whole cradle assemby and putting the whole lot in..I AM getting TEINS, and have posted on this thread because it is a thread for TEINS in an st165. When I come on here and ask question about what I want to put on MY CAR I dont need to be told how much someone else with a totaly different car did and how much they spent and how I am paying to much. .I myself havent found anything strickly for the st165 and if I have they dont make them anymore., If anyone knows any different dont tell me now, its too late... but it wouldnt change anything.. I have a little book that I filled out when I first brought the car and it states... st165 car. st205 engine and gearbox running off the st205 ecu, standard with front mount. st185 suspension with tein coilovers... Ive stuck by my guns and done what I said ill do, it took a while but its almost done. oh, and did I mention that was MY CAR, like something I own in which I can with whatever I please..

The Caldina is in the same situation. there's nothing available off the shelf locally to fit, but yes there is stuff OS.

But this thread has gotten way off track.

Squid started this thread to show how to fit ST185 Coilovers into an ST165. From interpretation, this could also be how you'd fit non coilover type struts (inserts or not) off a 185 into a 165.

So let's give up on the generic Coilover vs strut insert/spring debate because it's not relevant to this thread, nor is that argument ever going to be resolved because every car and every situation is different, and therefore it's upto each person to make up they're own mind.

toyota sell them bolts , have to get them in, not on shelf.. for 10 bucks each

Or you could go to any fastener store and pay a couple of bucks for them.

Little wonder that you are getting quoted $2k for a koni and kings combo...

tak - actually I couldn't get any to suit at either of canberra's fastener stores.

The shank is either too long or too short, either causes problems.

They'll be too short for the DMS suspension.
I've got the same issue on my rally Excel due to the camber collars.

Either go scouting at the wreckers for something that fits, or take out one of your bolts & go to a bolt shop and say you want the same thing, just longer (preferably in the shank).

I ended up using Hollow Chrome Moly Race bolts. I had to machine out the hubs and a little bit around the camber collars, but other wise no problems. They have done 9 State rallies and not bent at all. They did cost about $20 per bolt but 6 of these weighed the same as one standard bolt. Win

New suspension is in, ride much better but I am sure that it was flooged somewhere between handing it in to the place and getting it back. The drivehaft is now loose due to the bearing bushs (2 of) and both fucked, leaving a clunking in the rear and at speed a vibration.

can someone tell me how to adjust the suspension from hard to soft on the tiens super streets.
