That's another thing I don't really like about the 'dedicated' threads, information & topics discussed that are worth searching for later should be in the appropriate section (tech & conv. or general) with a title that suits the topic, for both reasons that it's easier to find the information when you need it, & that other people are more likely to find it without having to trek through 5000+ posts the find it & read it, and more importantly, to contribute themselves.

    That's the difference between a forum & a chat room I thought.

If i search for some aw11 info in 'AW11 owners anonymous' the keyword search brings up the first page of the whole thread.

Personally, I prefer the sub forum setup in mr2oc.com. If you're searching for something specific, it's a lot easier to find.

We probably don't have enough members here to support it though.

    So you want

    General car talk
    -> Dedicated threads

Don't you think this is going to encourage threads like:

"All you ever need to know about blinker fluid"

    "Changing tyres 101"

    "hairdressers that dont own celicas"

    etc?

I just had a look at the numbers, 42% of the posts in general are in 8 'dedicated' threads.

There are more posts in those 8 threads than in the Track Talk, Toymods Membership and Feedback, Cruises and Events and Members Rides subforums combined...

    postwhores! hehehe

as for the MR2OC subforums, they are easier when you are looking for something specific.. you get lost pretty easy when you are "just browsing" though

Or "7Ms that havn't blown HGs"...... oh, hang on, that's a bit far fetched.

Seriously though, I don't understand what you're trying to say, a dedicated subsection would be just for all the specific car dedicated threads, the one's that clutter up the General Section. If anyone wanted to start a new thread in there it too would need to be car or generation specific.

So what you are actually asking for is

    "dedicated car threads"

    So like:

    "General Car Talk"
    -> Dedicated Car Model Talk

    ?

    Hi,

Hmmm.... this is a hard one 'cos I can see both sides.

If you went "model specific" then you could have different threads within each catagory. For example, if you had a "Celica" section, then you'd have 1st Gen, ST162, etc threads in there. I think it would become unweildy to have a separate section for each model type/year of a particular marque.

Then what about engine threads? There's plenty of them about and some are quite long. So, if you're going to put the vehicles into a category then you may need to look at having an engine category with R-series, T-series, A-series, K-series, etc.

Although from an intial perspective this looks neat and ordered, it could become an admin nightmare to moderate and administer multiple sections. And then there's the cross-threads where one may talk about a certain engine in a certain car. Where does this go... into the relevant vehicle or engine category?

How far do we go? A gearbox/diff category?.... electricals?.... body panels?... interior?... suspension? While it may appeal to clean-up (for want of a better term) the categories and make things neater, it can become difficult to manage and cumbersome to navigate.

What river has posted is essentially what i was getting at.

It could proliferate into a huge number of 'dedicated' treads.

So if it's just a car thing, fair enough, model specific threads only.

But does this disadvantage others who want to have threads dedicated that aren't based on car models.

I know for a fact that river will want his 18RG thread put in the dedicated section.

Im just showing the flip side of this move.

if we end up going to the sub threads.

would that add those threads to the "advanced search" thread list.....would make it alot easier to find a specific page, especially when we have like 280 pages in the 162 thread.
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

Actually it's in the FAQ of the tech section.

However, it is also in the Tech Forums. The Tech Forums version has the links to all the diagrams, whereas the one in the FAQ doesn't. I'm still waiting on Wiztl to get his Bavarian butt into gear and move it over.
