Yep, it can and has been done. I had a TA22 a while back with 18RG. I used an R series cross member, from an RA21 from memory.
It fits fine, I used a W50 gearbox as the T series won't fit on an 18RG engine.

Overall its a bit longer but still fits well in a TA22. I've now done the 2TG, 18RG, 3T and 3T GTE in a Ta22 and so far very happy with the 3T GTE.

Fitting an 18RG isn't too hard, but you have to consider what you really want and if its better to go for a 3T GTE or 3SGTE etc etc up front if you are chasing big power figures.

    Hope this helps,
    Simon

    Hi,

You need an RA20 or RA21 x-member 'cos the RA20/21 has the same chassis as the TA22, but they had an R-series engine and therefore the proper x-member. The RA23/28 is a slightly different chassis.

The RA20/21 were USA vehicles. We have a few USA members on the forums (ie 71RA22) that may be able to assist you. Also it wouldn't hurt to put in a request in the "Wanted" section in the "For Sales" area. Someone local may have what you need.

I don't know enough about the RA23 brakes to comment if they are the same as the TA22 brakes. However, neither the TA22 and the RA23 are brilliant brakes - they're adequate but not marvellous. However, I don't think you need a brake upgrade for an 18R-G, unless you're thinking of working the engine to get more power, as opposed to just a stock 18R-G.

The RA23 brakes are different to the TA22 ones. They will stop you a bit quicker, but they still fade very quickly. The RA23 strut bolts up to the TA22, so if you had RA23 struts, go ahead and change it, but otherwise, I'd recommend changing for something a bit tougher. A couple of different corona struts bolt up. I'll let you search to find out which models, because you need the practice... And river would chastise me for spoon feeding you But basically with the rona ones, depending on the model you choose, you can get twin piston sumitomo calipers and 10.5" (from memory) vented calipers, and you can easily bolt on 4 spot hilux calipers with machined peugot rotors if you wanna get even keener.
Nikita the RA23 is almost finished .

RA23 struts and brakes are different to TA22. Both of them are a bucket of puss. Search Hilux/Pug/Corona brake upgrade

The RA23 strut is longer than the TA22 strut below the spring perch, will need lower springs to achieve same ride height then springs will not be captive.

    the _A23 celica body had either the 1.6litre as a TA23 or a 2litre as a RA23. they had a 2T and a 18R respectively.

TA23 and RA23 is the same body with the major difference being the xmember, motor and gearbox.

TA22 body is significantly different to a RA23/TA23 body W.R.T the engine bay and moutings

    Thanks
i was told to prove that the ta22 and the ta23 had the same brake set up and that the ta23 come with a 2L which would mean's i wouldn't require a brake upgrade if i put a 18rg in the ta22 for a engineers certificate p.s the 18rg is a 2ltre right??

    yeh - 18rg is 2litres. 1968cc/120CI to be exact.

handy toyota engine info page here http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/P...neEngines.html

i sould say most engineers would be happy if you put RA23/RA28 brakes in your TA22. you will have to use the TA22 strut top though. there may be height issues as well...RA23/28 struts are longer.

one way out might be to use KE55 strut tops. FYI, they move the top of the shock up into the strut tower a bit. best to look into that one more though first
