Cheers Bill, but my primary motivation for the SM4 is being able to deal with VVTi, which basically limits me to motec or SM4 (it's still a toss-up.. depends how rich I'm feeling)

Launch Control and flat shift should work just fine. Ray hall shits me to tears so I avoid his website. Last I checked the only major mis-information I noted was in relation to the SM4 and Knock Control. Knock Control is not currently available and I sure as hell wouldn't be holding my breath as it isn't even in pre-production yet. Mos is in the early stages of getting the TA22 ready for my SM4 now.
I wasn't trying to badmouth the SM4, as you would see from the section of text which you quoted I even recommended that people should ask you for up to date info on it as I had not looked into it since roughly the time BvD got his going.

Also regarding the SM4 and digital dashes I was under the impression that the SM4 was able to be integrated with the Motec SDL, ADL and MDD with Richard planning on making his own display unit sometime in the future.
But then this could be confusion that is caused by Ray Halls horid site yet again.

Why don't SAS register www.autronic.com.au and right the wrongs of Ray Halls worthless POS website?
If you create the "correct" content I will host the site for you for free... hell I'll even pay for the domain registration.

Adaptronic might be supporting VVT-i some time soon ...
I know they can run one cam at the moment, they're experimenting with it right now.

    Cool Re: Microtech Or Autronic???

Many good points made here by most! Only thing is everytime you want to go racing (at the track) when using microtech dont u have to get it retuned everytime B4 hand? That would be a costly exercise.

no you don't. You can save 4 tunes in the handset and 4 in the laptop dongle. Apparently, MT are looking to upgrade this so that you can save as many as you want.

You should really only need 2 anyway, one for pump fuel and one for what you use for racing.

Most of the ECUs you would be able to store tunes on the laptop, which makes changing tunes easy.

I'm really pleased with my Autronic SMC.. Does everything I want and I have a good tuner so always a pleasure to drive it after he has done his magic.

My only complaint is the lack of any kind of decent documentation. Like just now i'm trying to setup the autronic to run a boost control valve, and i have to fill in fields like the boost control range, boost control dynamic compensation, etc, and the online doco has basically nothing on any of this.

They need a good manual that explains each option and how to set it in english. I understand Ray Hall (cough a*sh*le cough) has a manual but he will only sell it to you if you buy the ecu from him. I refuse to deal with him anyway due to other matters.

    Joel,

The manuals from Ray Hall are written by Ray Hall, keep that in mind before deciding if you want one. If you do tho call Jim, Pretty sure we have 1 at work that we ordering in for someone and if not we can order one for you.

Autronic is low on "end user" support. As I understand it this is basically because the marketing intention is to only sell it to approved workshops for supply and fit, its not designed for retail resale. Because of that it comes with enough info for an experienced dyno tuner to set up and thats it. The rest is all up to the Tuner who can of course speak to Richard direct if required. Thats why you will only get tech support from the person you purchased it from.

dont be a wanker andrew, you know thats not the case.

they dont all of a suden forget whats programed into them.

that would be like me saying all maroon jza70 supras must misteriously lose 200 rwkw from when they get off the dyno making 406 rwkw but cant run more than 114mph.

To some-up in a nutshell! go with what you tuner knows and you budget can afford! There are very few good tuners around and i only know of a few that i would trust, The one i will metion is because i trust his work, i dont use him much as i have someelse i trust that does it for me at mates rates and i couldnt expect someone that owns a business to do that. Dave Alexander at SAS does a top job and has been doing it a long time, if your in sydney you would be mad to not use him and ROD.I have no connection to Dave at all and say this after seeming many 100's of aftermarket tuned cars and how there state of tune is from a lot of diffrent tuners!
Look at what the winners and the people that have no problems use for a computer and look at who has tuned there car, and never go off"my mate said".

Is there a need to get personal here shane? From your reaction it seems as if your vehicle

(the fastest car in the world)does need tuning B4 every race. Any of the points i made

were not aimed at any particular person. And u have taken it upon yourself to comment

    when there was no need.

Autronic ecu's are more than adequate in there operation and have so many fine tuning

features that make them in my opinion, superior to the other brand in question.

Autronic has my vote in this case.

I suppose its up to the individual and what ever floats there boat.

so your posting information on an assumption then.

my car has been tuned 4 times in 2 years, because i have changed things around 4 times. they are the facts. like most people who change things to get the most out of these changes you tune it to the new setup, which would happen whether a vehicle is microtech, autronic, wolf or EMS ecu'd

i wasnt getting personal, i was pointing out what you said was stupid and gave an example.

oh and my car isnt the fastest in the world mate, just the fastest street tyred 1jzgte, lets not get too excited now.

    Agree x ELELEVENTYBILLLION!!!11

Dave is gun. I will not go anywhere else to get any tuning done. He's tuned/tweaked a couple of my cars, and i could not give a single fault to his work.
