That is right and most are on a tight budget.
Me i would never use anythin but Autronic or motec for motorsport, but for a a bit of extra performance on the street etc the microtechs are fine.

This is the category I fall into and the Microtech has done a brilliant job under a wide range of conditions without fault and with the driveability of a modern factory car (some members of this forum have driven the car and/or been a passenger and will back that up).

I'd happily get one again as it's more than adequate for my requirements.

*(My car has to cold start anywhere from -7 to +40 degrees where I live, it runs 12's over the 1/4 mile, drives smooth as silk, gets better fuel economy on the highway than my Mirage and is just as happy on the track as it is in traffic - it does everything I expect )

Robbo, perhaps you should look at a megasquirt then they were originally designed as a carby replacement for big V8's (or such was the test bed)...

most Aussie have a fascination with ECU complexity and extra outputs etc... but in reality rarely need them... tuning every 250rpm? bollocks

almost all engines can be accurately mapped with some sensibly selected points for interpolation (and you can check that by looking at your tuned map, and trying to describe in say.. a 10x10 matrix)

sit down with the features, sit down with your tuner, and discusss what will work best for them...

personally, i will always tune my engines myself, because if i can't understand how to do it, there is no way my "tuner" will

I can vouch for the reliability of the Autronic, I have one of the first SM2's ever built, infact so old that Richard Aubert doesn't have any records of it and says probably one of first he made. Over the years it has been on lots of different engines, just updating processor to suit multi coils etc etc and reprogramming, other than the processor changes it has never missed a beat, from use on rotaries to fours to eights!!! It's one well thrashed Autronic

I might as well put my vote in here for Adaptronic.

    Go to www.adaptronic.com.au
download the wari.exe program install, click load from file then cancel and you can look thought the tuning and setup screens.

I've installed/tuned a few of them now and I can't fault them, there support or the price

    *whispers*
That's what I said earlier. Cheaper than a Microtech, and better in just about every way.

When I first got the SMC a few people knocked it due to lack of outputs.. But being on a 4cylinder engine, I've had no problems yet as you can configure the injector drivers as on/off outputs for the fan etc.

I wonder if someone can hack into R.H.'s website and add that to the list of features of the SM2??

    HAHAHA!! rofl

    Shane,

dont get me wrong, i rekon the microtech is a bloody good piece of machinery and does it's job quite well for thousands of people. You have to love a product that you can wire up and drive away - kudos goes out for that!

What I do think is that Microtech could improve on their product with only a few minor improvements in build quality and construction, choice of componentry and enclosures. I would be far more pleased with the product if they just spent a little more time developing and improving in these areas.... (i've even contacted them from work offering to assist with product supply)...... but remember, i am pretty picky when it comes to these qualities in a product.
