there are many others but from what i have seen only 4 decent tuners that know how to get good power and keep the engine alive. i wont mention names as i dont want to start a war but if you send me a pm asking advice i will tell you.

cheers roadrunner!...would giv ya more rep if i could!
whats the go with tuners in syd?...i know every tom dick n harry play with microtechs, but what about the autronics?...i know rod, SAS play with them, but what about others?

I've always used Hitman (matt) for my autronic tuning on both my 3tgte and now 3sgte. Has always done an awesome job no complaints at all.
Should mention that I now tune it myself but am only a novice, but it's a great learning experience and not so bad if its your own car/engine that is the guinie pig.

With a bit of common sense and some basic theory the learning curve is very steep once you start tuning, particularly when its your own car and you already know how it responds to different scenarios.
If you are in the market for an ECU, and want to learn to tune yourself, consider the tuning interface also when you make your choice, ie: laptop or handset, mapping via graphical view or numerical VE/ms tables etc. Some are much more cumbersome and frustrating you use than others![]()

I thought it was internal (remembering blacksupra's SM4 that I installed) - just another version of the Motorolla MPX sensor that's commonly used on most ECUs.
I have to say - Mos' comments regarding the construction and design of the Autronic only go part of the way to describe just how well engineered they are.
Just sit an SM4 next to a LT12s, and it's like comparing a year 10 electronics project with a post-graduate electrical engineering project.
In terms of heat control - Microtechs get hot. Quite hot. Their construction is relatively crude in terms of heat dissipation - output transistors are sinked to the case by positional contact, they arent bolted or fixed to the case in any way (no heatsink grease or heat transfer pads either).
In fact the reason microtech no longer run the internal ignitors is because they used to cook themselves.
...... butt scratcher?!
I'm also interested in what the 4-bar sensor is (since I need one!)
Cheers
anyone know about warranty for either of them?
Just a quick comment on SM4 versus SMC and SM2.
Our tuner had a SM2 on his car and could never quite tune a slight hesitation out when he planted his foot. He changed to a SM4 to learn more about it to aid his clients and the hesitation disapeared. This is due to the SM4 being able to process much faster than earlier models.
so far im leaning towards the sm4.....its seeming more like the economical choice in the long run..... as i know if i got a microtech...id then wanna upgrade to the sm4Originally Posted by off-road

cant go wrong with an sm4, they are one of the best on the market.
as the little saying goes why run a $10k motor on a $1k computer, makes no sense to me.

that i will agree with but if a tuner cant tune something as easy as an autronic then they aren't really a tuner, they would be classified (imo) as a twit, there is nothing difficult about tuning its dead simple all you have to do is give the engine what it wants, if you cant do this properly you have no right to charge ppl for teaching yourself how to do the job.Originally Posted by 1JZ.747
being in the industry i understand shite goes wrong at times but tuning is not difficult .

lots of people call themselves tuners linden, but how may in this country actually have big results under their belt in racing or dyno numbers, you could count it on one hand.Originally Posted by The Real Roadrunner

any who, i hope old mate here finds what he is after and he has success with what ever he chooses.
