If you have an outer bearing race stuck in a hub (eg wheel hub), smash all the balls/rollers out and run a bead of weld around the inside of the race. This causes it to shrink allowing much easier removal.
When assemling new wheel bearings that are the more modern opposed angular contact bearing cartrage, heat the hub up in the oven to about 110/120 degrees C and place the bearing in the freezer. Have some decent gloves to handle the hub, put some thin lube (even WD40 type spray) on the bearing and quickly push the bearing into the hub, making sure you start it square. If it doesn't start after a couple of attempts, put the bits back in their respective heater/coolers. You have to be ready as everything starts to cool and warm straight away, reducing your crearance. Have a drift that is just smaller in diameter than the outer race and a hammer ready incase the bearing gets stuck once started. Only ever tap the outer race for assembly.

yep thats a good one, i use this method frequently (fitter and machineist by trade), but i find that not using the fridge/freezer is better because when they come into instant contact the heat transfers too quick, but if the smaller (bearing in this case) is warmer then its more successful.
welding the race works to shrink works too, dont need to do the whole race, just more then half on opposing sides, and try not to get spatter on the inner bearing seat![]()

For the major Oil spilage, you can go to bunning and ask them for the sawdust from their cutting machines. Spread it over the oil spill and it soaks it up and sweep up.

Beige.... The new Black!!!
Kitty litter is also good, you need to get the fibrous stuff, not the pebbles (though crushing up the pebbles works at a pinch)... it will soak EVERYTHING out of your concrete, not just the oil you spilt.

its from the cold thats usually found in concrete. if you have a heating system in your floor (like me) then you can put and leave whatever you feel like there. if its cold not so much.. almost all batteries start failing at that -1 celsius the only batteries (that i know of) to contradict this are the lithium batteries...... i dont think they make them for automotive use, but i haven't looked.Originally Posted by allencr

If you spray old oil that has soaked into yr concrete then put kitty litter on top, leave it for a couple of weeks, draws most of the oil out of the cement.
Also a very good garden mulch, keeps the soil drying out round yr plant roots.
Dont know if this has been said yet but anyway.
Those spray bottles of waterless wash i sonly good for cleaning ya windscreen, Is a pain to put on at the start but once its rubbed in/dry it works wonders when it rains. No need for wipers.
Instead of piss farting around with rusted nuts and bolts, try a product called YIELD. It costs plenty, but is heaps better than WD40 and the like. I got mine from Blackwoods as it's much more of an industrial type product. Be prepared for a decent bill![]()

also on the saw dust note it is awesome for killing everything in your garden,Originally Posted by Lambolica
