x1 top mounts are bolt on so worse case your looking at drilling new holes in your support and dropping a nut on bolt through to fix the mounts.

right angle at the top ... right angle at the bottom ... tapped a thread into the top and bolted on the mounts. Drilled holes in the bottom angle for the lugs to sit in ... eventually a few rubber spacers - washers will go between the angle and base of the radiator.

I spent 2.5 hours walking all over pickies today in the hunt for the "perfect" rad upgrade for the RA28.

I settled on the Excel Rad too ! everything else that got me excited was to high or too wide

I have just come in from welding on new support lugs for my V6 camry twin core which fits a treat in an AE86. If you look at ST162's or AE82's and undoubtedly others, the drivers side support lug is a bolt on rather than welded. Makes them easy to get off at pick a part. Make sure you take the rubbers too as they are a different outside dimension (bigger) although the inner hole is the same size as an AE86. When fitting the camry rad to an AE86, the new brackets go on just inside the original AE86 mounts so you can leave the original AE86 mounts in place in case you ever need to go back for some reason. Plus the V6 camry rad is exactly the same height as an AE86 rad, just a bit wider. In an update to my earlier thread, the wiring loom does actually still fit in the original location. The only issue is that the top hose outlet is 34mm instead of 31mm, which isn't much of an issue, and 30mm over to the drivers side.

Don't know if I updated this but I have the x2 radiator in now. On my drive to Jamboree (2 hours in 30deg heat) the car never went about 86deg on the highway. Does the job for me

    Guys,

On this note, are you using the factory thermo fans for the excel x1/x2/x3 radiators?

I have an X3 radiator for my TA22 and need to buy thermo fans yet... Not sure if I go 1 aftermarket, or buy the stock thermos new/used

    Cheers,

    Rob

Im using the factory thermo.. This was one of the big selling points for me was that the Excel radiator already has the mounts for the fan.

Unlike the factory radiators in my AE86 & RA28 you have to make brackets or put bolts through the core etc.

Makes for nice & neat install.

I have a different thermo. It was already mounted from my old radiator so I just used that.

Interesting, I might get a quote from Hyundai or look around at wreckers for stockies...

I have a 14inch thermo which is around 30mm shy of fitting it unfortunatly, but as you fellas mentioned the standard mounts are def a bonus and would look neater!!

    Thanks again,

    Rob
