Arrow 22RE.Why dnt they rev past 5,000rpm.

    Hey Guys
I have a race car with a worked 21r in it and it revs and loves it sitting at 7,000rpm.our rules have now changed (long story) i am allowed to put a 22r in it.i am going to get it machined up and what not but is it the computer that wont let it rev or go any better past 5,000rpm or is it just the motor???
    realy keen to no why
    Thanks

Standard Redline in them is 5800rpm cut use to be around 6200rpm on mine. They are a truck engine and do not like to rev though, power drops off significantly after 5000rpm. My understanding is the swirl intake ports/cam is designed for low end torque and are very restrictive at higher rpms.
    If in doubt power out

as above, the head is the biggest restriction (followed by the poopy EFI system) some head work and a megasquirt or carbs will open things up. remember that the longer stroke also restricts the maximum safe revs.

As said a combination of things, cam, head design, timing, limiter.

Arguably the biggest change to make would be revised camshaft

    Hi,

Will the rules allow for an 18R-G... bored and stroked out to 2.4ltrs?

Winner! Actually...what are the rules? Surely there's a more suitable engine? I would have thought even a mildly worked 18R would be a stronger race motor than a worked 22R...

ill get heaps heaps more power out of 22r then an 18r.i wld go 18rg but they hard to get and if i need parts for a 22r they are every where
the only rules are n/a and have to be toyota motor(i cant put a ford motor in my toyota) and have to b 4cylinder.they are open.i was also thinking beams but they are hard to find and get parts for.

    Hi,

Dunno about heaps more power. Maybe a handful of kWs. Both are uninspiring engines.

You can bolt a 20R head to the 22R, if that's allowed. This will get you some more power.
