Is there any rust around it? It's one of the most common reasons for windscreens/ windows to leak.
Hey all,
My ae86 sprinter has rear quarter leaking windows. As it has been raining i have noticed this quiet alot especially on heavy days. I am wondering if any of the members on this forum have experienced this and what ways to fix it and with what product. Also I am having difficulty taking of the rubber on my car. Im too afraid that I will break the clips that hold the rubber in place. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Check for rust, then try to establish exactly where the water is coming in. If you can clearly see where it is entering already, give it a bit of a spray with the garden hose. If it is just a small cracked area of seal or something, there are some good rubber glues and silicones available that will work wonders.
To find where it is leaking you will need the following:
- Garden Hose
- Friend/s
Now get the friend to sit in the car and watch the window to do which you may need to remove some plastic trim. Now starting at the BOTTOM of the window and moving up to the top start hosing but not to hard and get your friend to watch for water coming in.
Once the leak is found remove the window and then clean the glue/sealant off and buy some stuff called butyl mastic (correct spelling?) which comes in a few colours but use black. It is a rubbery compound that dries on the outside but stays sticky inside and is similar to silicon except it is easier to clean off. Now just run a bead around the window and then reassemble everything. Don't be shy as it is easy to clean off paint using prep solvent and also leaves no damage.

and, it being your lucky day, I'll have half a tube of sikaflex left over after sticking my bodykit on![]()
Mix a teaspoon of talcum powder into a spray pot full of metho. Spray around your window and door seals inside the car,. The metho will evaporate, and leave a nice even white powder coat. You then simply hose the car down, chamois off the excess water, then check the powdered area for leaks. Any water flowing or dripping over the seals will wash away the powder. Works for boots and hatches too.
Old timer panel beaters use this method.
cheers Chuck.
