Neither, they're both purple/pink!!
The Simota R. The HKS one might flow a little better, but those foam ones are notorious for not...you know...filtering![]()

The Simota R, reling on a spring to keep dirt out of your engine with the HKS is too risky
i've heard of the foam disintergrating in some applications... so i voted for the simota.

Hi,
The top one - the paper filter one.
In any event, if you want more performance, try and make a cold air-intake assembly for it.

I reckon both would be better if you "hi-flowed" them with a power drill.
meh, foam and cotton gauze filters are overrated
a large area paper filter will flow as much anyway, AND keep out more grit... and not clog as quickly as an oiled filter

is a powder test.. not sure what it means, but yeh i always thought there's a sacrific between flow and filter.. if it filters well, it doesn't flow as fast and much.. if it flows plenty, it doesn't filter as well.. and that the stock filter is the balance between flow and filter.. hmm..

I use an oiled foam filter on one of my cars, & an oiled cotton guaze filter on the other, neither of which have caused problems. The main benifit of both is that they are washable, so I don't have to fork out for new filters every year or so.
I don't really like the idea of a dry foam filter, although I'm guessing it'll have a denser foam on the inside, but either one is going to stop instantly destructive things from getting into your engine.
There's going to be bugger all difference power wise, so go with whichever is easier to maintain. As has been said, more flow = less filtering, so like everything when it comes to cars it's a compromise.
EDIT: and I'm pretty sure that second one is a RUSH o2 filter (made by Finer Filters) isn't it?
This is assuming you are comparing filters with the same surface area. If you use a material which filters well but use a bigger filter you can get the best of both worlds.Originally Posted by Vios-GT_07
I voted the Simota R, the HKS one looks shite and old.
I used to eat alot of natural foods. That was until I learned that most people died of natural causes.
RTA regulations state that any filter used in a car must be a dry element type, Oil based airfilters breach some EPA regulation and are thus illgeal.Originally Posted by BigWorm
