Rebuilt the box not long ago with all genuine parts and i run Redline shockproof.

It sucked teh shift before the rebuild and before the Redline swap.

I'm used to it now anyway

The gear set I was talking about was a semi-'dog box' set but with helix style teeth. I think to break that you would have a very hard time. You could always go the full dog box but it depends what your after, not that streetable app. I never driven one tho so I can't comment.

Incase it hasn't already been said, use a manual JZA-70 bel housing to fit a R154 to any 1jz or 2jz engine. Toyota still sell them new if you are desperate (price is not as horific as you would think either!)

My late '88 ga-70 supra runs a rev 3 1G-GTE and a W58 box, the sandwich plate is steal, the belhousing alloy. I recently bought an is200 short block fora crank, it also had a steal plate and it looked identical to taht on my '88 supra.

    IS200 should have had a 6-speed?

Yup, but it only fits the 3S or 1G block, and its not all that strong (j160) if you want a 6 on a 2jz, V160 is the obvious choice, as errrr thats what it comes on.

Even teh best R154s are a bit "agricultural" that is just the waythey are! have found running redline MT-90 helps and keeps it as smooth shifting as a fresh W58.....

Yes I know all of that, but I was referring to this comment you made earlier:

To rephrase my question, didn't your IS200 short block have a 6-speed attached to it, in which case it's not really relevant to the discussion? Or have I missed something here?

an r154 will survive fine. I abuse mine behind my v8 and 11" clutch and will be feeding it some more power soon with a supercharger so will keep you posted. i personally think my diff will go first, we shall see in a few weeks when i take it to the strip

edit: if you want times, make sure u get a short shifter with the truck like r154! And also have the 1st gear thrust washer swapped with a case- hardened unit
