Default supra turbo box behind 2jzgte

ok ive pretty much decided to fuck off the 3sgte as its giving me the shits and doesnt have enough torque. a 2jz is no.1 on the list for replacment engines. i want to keep my supra turbo gbox though doesnt anyone know if it will fit up to the 2jz and if not how much modification will need to be done as in bell housing etc?
    cheers

id love a 6 speed but its just 2 much $$

Depends what you mean by a Supra Turbo Box......The W58?
The 2JZGEs in the JZA80s had W58s and therefore had bellhousings to match the two engines together.....
(second hand knowledge though, I'm sure you could search)

im guessing you mean the r154?

im not sure youll find a bellhousing to mount the r154 behind a jz... perhaps from a jza70 manual - did they run an r154? not going to be many of them though

JZA70's had the r154. Bellhousings do tend to pop up every now and then for around the $200 mark.

either teh R154 or the w58 will bolt up you just need the approp. bell housing. for teh w58 the na Mk4 had w58 beed up as well. the JZA70 had the R154 so you need a bell from there. I JUST read on the interchangable thread that the w56 bolts up the the 2jz. Hva a look in that thread and PM the guy that posted and see if you can get some more info off him if you have a W series.

On a side note the clutch ect from a R154 on an M series engine work on a JZ series. Some thing about the 'splins' being the same... Will be confiming this in the not to distant future. Also heard the same about the W58 but thats just rumour atm.

    All manual 1jzgte's ran R154's.

Just get a conversion kit for one of them.

If the "Supra turbo" box is currently behind a 3S it's almost certainly a W58.

As mentioned above, get a 2JZ-GE manual bellhousing (ie from a 5-speed JZA80 Supra) and you'll be sweet. This isn't strictly speaking a turbo gearbox but it will do the job... if you're gentle with it.

That what gets me all the V8 boys call the w58 a turbo supra gear box but I don't think it was ever behind a turbo engin in a supra. Maybe the M-TEU?

    and 1g-gte

what car is this in? the w58 will survive if you're nice, but ask norbie what his supra does to w58s (and really, who puts a 2j in their car to be nice to it?)

Good point! forgot about the 1g.

A guy that used to be on the Mk2 mailing list had a w58 behind a 9 second turbo 5m-ge. he said they held good compared to the R154. I think it comes down to who you talk to. I had a theiry tho that the w58 handles KW better but the R154 handles torque better. Purly speculation tho.

    Sorry for the off topic!

The guy with the 9 second mk2 smashed something like a dozen W58's before switching to a stronger box. He got a few runs out of each box though, and that's acceptable for a drag racer but not so acceptable for a streeter.

IMO if you want a manual transmission behind a 2JZ-GTE, the Getrag is the only way to go. Yes it costs a lot more but at least you have peace of mind, and don't have to be worrying about your gearbox every time you release the clutch.

Not fitted to the 7MGTE's, but fitted to the 7MGE's, 1GGTE's and 2JZGE's
