i rebuilt my 18rc for $627 (every gasket, bearing, seal, chain... the works) The timing set from memory was $135 from burson here in Vic.

It really depends what your version of throwaway is...

But TOSCO if you have another motor sitting there you might as well put it in and not waste money on a motor you dont want...

    18r-g + straight lpg + t25 turbo + 14 psi = FUN!

an RG in vic for 250 no bids, geez i missed that one. i think it would be worth it.
(for me that is) there so hard to find here.

one question though, what side is the exhaust on? (if im standing in front of the car)
I've seen some on the left and some on the right.

I did see another ebay recently sell for $455 in shit condition but had a yamaha head. umm
    there all yamaha - d'oh.

Edit: had a look add the photos of RG's I had off the net and finally realized numbers
on the head were backwards. an inverted photo ???. oh well.

Yea, depending on what you can do ur self, and how much spare time you have, you can rebuild it cheap.
    But still, whats it worth?

I have a RG in peices that ive done some head work on, so it will take a week to put it together, realise ive lost somthing, buy a new thing, and get it running.

A small note on building 18RG's, the valves have 'Teq' (the old toyota sign, watever it is), and the Yamaha tunning fork sign on them, i have NO idea y they did this?!?!?!?! it is jsut going to cause pre-ignition, zippen em off with a die grinder is the way to go.
The head also needs a lot of deburring.

Very true, and its worth heaps to me, probably not much to anyone else..

If you think your motor will last the distance, just drive it...

note: banana skins actually do make some noises quieter
